Position Summary:
The Manager of Institutional Research and Assessment is responsible for collecting, analyzing, interpreting, and reporting data for use in institutional decision-making, overseeing the documentation of the College’s strategic plan and assessment projects, developing projections and forecasts, and managing data submissions for accreditation and compliance. The person in this role will collaborate with departments across the College to identify information needs and support ongoing efforts to streamline data access and availability.

Salary Range: $75,000-$85,000
Data Analysis & Management
- Serve as a central resource for institutional data and a key partner in the development and monitoring of strategic indicators for the College.
- Communicate findings clearly and concisely through narrative-driven presentations, reports, and interactive data visualizations.
- Coordinate with all areas of the College to ensure adherence to common data definitions and standards for academic data.
- Evaluate internal systems for efficiency, problems, and inaccuracies, maintaining protocols for handling, processing, and cleaning data.
- Provide technical expertise on data storage structures, data cleansing, data analyses, and report writing with data from relevant college systems (e.g., SONIS, Element451, Watermark, Brightspace, etc.).
- Maintain updated Standard Operating Procedures for all routine data reports and compliance-related tasks.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Assessment
- Serve as Chair of the College’s Assessment Committee, coordinating the development and providing oversight of the College’s assessment of student learning activities, in collaboration with committee members and the Vice President of Academic Affairs & Workforce Development.
- Support the development, delivery, and evaluation of assessment training, drop-in sessions, and workshops for faculty, staff, and administrators.
- Provide technical and professional guidance, consultation, and support to programs and offices regarding assessment, including development of curriculum mapping, assessment plans, interpretation of assessment findings, and appropriate utilization and application of results.
Accreditation and Compliance
- Develop an in-depth knowledge of standards for accreditation through active engagement with materials, training, and meetings related to accreditation and advise College leaders on proposed revisions and changes.
- Review proposed and existing academic program assessment plans, data, accountability, and evaluation programs for compliance with regional accreditation (NECHE) standards, as well as discipline-specific programmatic accreditations and internal program reviews.
- Submit data and prepare reports for accreditation, as well as participate in accreditation meetings.
- Serve as Urban College’s NECHE Accreditation Liaison Officer.
- Prepare and submit external reports on a timely basis to include, but not limited to: IPEDS, NECHE, National Clearinghouse, NC-SARA, programmatic accreditation, and strategic planning.
- Serve as the primary IPEDS keyholder.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in higher education administration, educational research, statistics, social sciences, public policy, data analytics, or a closely related field. Master’s degree preferred.
- At least three years of experience in institutional research, institutional effectiveness, assessment, higher education data analysis, or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience collecting, analyzing, interpreting, and presenting quantitative and qualitative data to support planning and decision-making.
- Experience preparing required federal and state reports (e.g., IPEDS and state higher education reporting) with a high degree of accuracy.
- Knowledge of assessment methodologies, outcomes assessment, and continuous improvement practices in higher education.
- Experience supporting institutional accreditation and program review processes.
- Proficiency in data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI/Tableau) required.
- Proficiency in IBM Statistics, SQL, and reporting platforms preferred.
- Experience developing dashboards, reports, and data visualizations for executive leadership and campus stakeholders.
- Strong understanding of research methodology, statistical analysis, survey design, and data integrity principles.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate complex analytical findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Excellent written, verbal, organizational, and project management skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment when handling sensitive institutional data.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects in a dynamic environment.
Working Conditions:
- This is a full-time (37.5 hours per week) position.
- Both hybrid (Wednesdays and Thursdays on campus in Boston) and primarily remote employment models will be considered for this role. This employment model is subject to periodic review by the President.
