Sleepy Garden Family Child Care Home is seeking a reliable, patient, caring, creative, and dependable Full-Time Child Care Assistant to join our home-based child care program.
We are looking for someone who genuinely enjoys working with children and understands that child care involves much more than simply supervising. The right person will be actively involved with the children, help create fun and engaging activities, and assist with maintaining a clean, safe, organized and welcoming daycare environment.
Schedule
Tuesday: 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM
Wednesday: 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM
Thursday: 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM
Saturday: As Needed
Sunday: As Needed

Pay: Salary Pay
Weekend availability is an important part of this position. Saturday and Sunday hours may vary depending on enrollment and child care needs.

Child Care Responsibilities
Responsibilities include:
- Actively supervising children and maintaining their safety
- Playing, talking, reading and interacting with children
- Encouraging positive interactions between children
- Assisting children with age-appropriate learning and developmental activities
- Creating fun weekly or seasonal themes
- Coming up with arts & crafts projects and creative activities
- Setting up and cleaning up activities
- Supervising indoor and outdoor play
- Assisting with meals and snacks
- Assisting with diapering, toileting and hygiene as needed
- Providing additional support to children with individual or special needs
- Helping children follow the daycare's daily routines
- Assisting with evening routines when applicable
Cleaning & Daycare Upkeep
Maintaining a clean and safe environment is an important part of this position. Daily responsibilities may include:
- Keeping the daycare area clean, organized, safe and free of unnecessary clutter
- Vacuuming and/or sweeping daycare areas
- Wiping down tables, chairs and frequently touched surfaces
- Cleaning and sanitizing toys and play areas
- Cleaning up after meals and snacks
- Cleaning up after crafts and activities
- Organizing toys, books, learning materials and craft supplies
- Monitoring the environment for potential safety hazards
- Helping maintain a welcoming environment for children and families
Experience & Qualifications
Applicants should:
- Be 18 years of age or older
- Have previous experience working with children
- Have experience with infants, toddlers, preschool and/or school-age children
- Have previous experience in a licensed family child care home, daycare, preschool, school, classroom, after-school program, nanny position, special-needs program or similar child-focused environment
- Be able to meet all applicable California child care licensing and background clearance requirements
- Have or be willing to complete required Mandated Reporter Training
- Have Pediatric CPR & First Aid certification or be willing to obtain it if required
- Meet applicable health/TB and other licensing requirements
ECE/Child Development coursework, teaching experience, special-needs experience, or previous family child care experience is strongly preferred.
A Good Fit for Sleepy Garden
We are looking for someone who understands that working in a family child care home means being hands-on.
You should be comfortable getting down on the children's level, playing games, reading books, doing crafts, helping children learn and creating activities that keep them engaged.
You should also be someone who doesn't mind helping with the everyday upkeep of a daycare—including vacuuming, wiping down surfaces, sanitizing, organizing and keeping the child care space safe and clutter-free.
Most importantly, we are looking for someone who is patient, dependable, trustworthy, creative and genuinely enjoys working with children.
