Position Summary**
Metropol-Tech Consulting Inc. (MTCI) is seeking qualified, customer-focused Licensed Opticians to provide onsite optical dispensing services for the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Maryland Health Care System. The selected candidates will support Veterans receiving vision care services at VA Medical Centers and Community-Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs) throughout Maryland.
The Optician will work directly with Veterans, Optometrists, Ophthalmologists, and VA clinical staff to ensure accurate fitting, dispensing, adjustment, and repair of prescription eyewear while maintaining the highest standards of patient care and customer service.

Baltimore Community-Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC)
Cambridge CBOC
Eastern Baltimore County CBOC
Fort Meade CBOC
Glen Burnie CBOC
Pocomoke City CBOC
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Assist Veterans in selecting appropriate eyeglass frames based on prescription requirements and lifestyle needs.
Measure pupillary distance (PD), segment heights, base curves, and other optical measurements.
Verify prescription specifications issued by VA Optometrists and Ophthalmologists.
Dispense prescription eyewear and ensure proper fit and comfort.
Perform frame adjustments, repairs, replacement of screws, nose pads, and other minor maintenance.
Educate patients regarding eyewear use, care, and maintenance.
Document patient interactions and services within VA electronic health record systems (CPRS/EHR).
Maintain compliance with FDA regulations, ANSI standards, and VA policies.
Collaborate effectively with VA Eye Clinic staff, Prosthetics personnel, and other healthcare professionals.
Ensure timely service delivery and exceptional customer satisfaction.
Participate in required training and continuing education programs.
Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations.
Current, unrestricted Maryland Optician License.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English fluently.
Experience performing optical measurements, fittings, adjustments, and repairs.
Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
Ability to successfully pass a federal background investigation.
Ability to obtain and maintain VA credentialing, computer access, and PIV badge requirements.
American Board of Opticianry (ABO) Certification.
Previous experience working in a hospital, medical center, Veterans Affairs facility, military treatment facility, or large healthcare organization.
Experience using electronic health records (EHR/EMR systems).
Schedule
Monday through Friday
8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
No weekends unless special clinic coverage is requested by the VA.
Federal holidays observed.
Physical Requirements
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
Ability to perform detailed measurements and adjustments requiring fine motor skills.
Ability to lift and move optical equipment and supplies as needed.
