Electrical Engineer – Connectivity & Embedded Design
Our client, a global leader in connected consumer technology, is growing their hardware engineering team and looking for a motivated, experienced electrical engineer to join their Electronics Subsystems group. This team owns the design and validation of the electrical systems, circuit boards, and displays used in a widely-deployed line of smart connected devices. We need a hands-on engineer who can work across functions to understand customer needs, design and improve industry-leading products, and take them into production through a structured stage-gate process.
What You'll Do:
- Work with a cross-functional team to determine optimum architecture, design, and implementation of hardware products
- Independently specify, design, coordinate the build of, test, and release embedded circuit board designs
- Work closely with software and firmware teams, understanding dependencies between hardware and software development activities
- Work within an engineering team to improve quality, lower cost, and drive continuous development of new and existing products
- Bring strong understanding of DFx best practices for circuit board assembly and testing
- Collaborate and communicate effectively across groups
What You'll Need:
- BS in Electrical or Electronics Engineering, or equivalent relevant experience
- Electronics design experience including:
- Wireless connectivity solutions using Thread and Matter (BT and WiFi experience also highly desired)
- Familiarity with microcontroller circuit design and interfacing with common communication interfaces (Serial, USB, SPI, I2C, CAN)
- Ability to work with Procurement and Manufacturing counterparts to identify potential supply chain issues and recommend actions — including alternate supplier identification, last-time-buy quantity recommendations, and component harvesting opportunities
- Good judgment regarding appropriate verification testing levels for component End-of-Life scenarios (datasheet inspection, component testing, board-level testing, system-level testing)
- Ability to work cross-functionally with Firmware and Software teams to write feature requests and guide development of new drivers supporting alternate components
- Understanding of the electronics design lifecycle — from requirements through design, testing, release to manufacturing, and sustaining
- Experience with a PLM system (e.g., Windchill) is a plus
- Experience with Electronics BOM Lifecycle Management tools (e.g., Silicon Expert, IHS)
- Experience developing component specifications and test plans to validate performance against requirements
- Excellent documentation and communication skills
Preferred (a plus, not required):
- Experience with Altium Designer
- Familiarity with cable harness design considerations and component selection
- Familiarity with C, C++, C#, or Python for test firmware
- Knowledge of regulatory/compliance standards, domestic and international (FCC, ETSI, UL, CE)
