Overview
We are seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse (RN) with specialized experience in Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) to join our dynamic healthcare team. This role involves providing comprehensive, high-quality nursing care to critically ill pediatric patients within a specialized intensive care environment. Duties
- Deliver expert nursing care to pediatric patients in the PICU, including monitoring vital signs, administering medications, and managing ventilators and other life-support equipment.
- Perform detailed patient assessments, including physical examinations and physiological evaluations, to identify changes in patient condition promptly.
- Implement advanced interventions such as airway management, aseptic techniques, IV infusion, catheterization, and tube feeding to stabilize critically ill children.
- Collaborate closely with physicians, respiratory therapists, and other healthcare professionals to develop and execute individualized care plans.
- Maintain accurate and detailed medical documentation within electronic health record (EHR) systems like Cerner or Epic, ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Conduct diagnostic evaluations and coordinate laboratory specimen collection and processing for timely analysis.
- Provide family-centered education on disease processes, treatment plans, and post-discharge care, including discharge planning and long-term management strategies.
- Ensure infection control protocols are rigorously followed to prevent hospital-acquired infections within the PICU environment.
- Respond swiftly to emergency situations utilizing critical care response procedures such as neonatal resuscitation procedures and trauma medicine protocols.
- Participate in ongoing training related to ICD coding (ICD-10), trauma medicine, infectious disease care, and other specialty areas relevant to pediatric critical care.
Experience
- Proven critical care experience within a PICU setting is essential; prior ICU experience in a Level I or Level II trauma center is highly desirable.
- Demonstrated proficiency with EMR/EHR systems such as Cerner or Epic for medical documentation and patient record management.
- Experience working with children across various age groups, including neonates and toddlers, with knowledge of neonatal ventilator management and infant care practices.
- Familiarity with advanced nursing procedures such as suturing, venipuncture (phlebotomy), sterile processing techniques, and laboratory experience.
- Knowledge of pharmacology related to acute pain management, medication administration protocols, and sedation practices for pediatric patients.
- Understanding of hospital medicine principles including telemetry monitoring, respiratory therapy support (ventilators), and aseptic technique adherence.
- Additional experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities or behavioral health considerations enhances the ability to provide holistic patient care.
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), or equivalent is required; additional certifications such as Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) are advantageous.
