The Department of Police and Public Safety provides a wide range of services, including law enforcement, criminal investigations, parking enforcement and citation collection, emergency response, community policing, security escorts, security assessments, motorist assistance, educational programming, and support for special events.
The Communications Center serves as the operational hub for the department, supporting all Police and Public Safety activities. Telecommunicators receive emergency and non-emergency calls for service, assess requests, dispatch the appropriate resources, maintain accurate documentation of incidents and response activities, and monitor officer status to ensure safety and coordinate additional assistance when needed.
In addition to dispatch operations, Telecommunicators verify driver’s licenses for the university, monitor access control systems, alarms, and surveillance cameras, and perform various administrative duties. They also contribute to the department’s community outreach efforts by obtaining specialized instructor certifications and assisting with programs such as Rape Aggression Defense (RAD), Run/Hide/Fight active shooter preparedness training, and other public safety education initiatives.
