A court clerk is under the direct supervision of the judges of the Town of Highlands Justice Court.
In a variety of tasks of court operations, a court clerk must demonstrate the skills of working independently, accuracy, attention to detail, organization, prioritization, record-keeping, financial responsibility, computer skills (including specialized court software), electronic recording and multitasking in a busy office environment and in the courtroom.
The position requires respectful and accurate verbal, written and auditory communication skills because a court clerk communicates with the public and serves as the court’s link of communication with multiple external agencies that are involved in court cases.
A court clerk must have a positive attitude and excellent listening comprehension and interpersonal skills. A court clerk must be able to understand legal documents. With respect to court operations and to external parties, the court clerk must be professional, confidential, and trustworthy to further the mission of the court to adjudicate in a fair, independent and impartial manner.
The New York State Office of Court Administration requires that a clerk complete continuing education and training each year at no cost to the court clerk.

Pay: $23.17 per hour
