Quality Assurance is a systematic process to improve business operations and increase customer satisfaction. It addresses both the quality of a finished product or service (the effectiveness of the operation) and the efficiency (costs and resources) of producing it. It is important to note that, in order for a business to be categorized as a high-quality operation, it must operate both effectively and efficiently.
Quality Assurance addresses overall improvement of business operations in the prevention of defects, and Quality Control, a subset of Quality Assurance, focuses on detecting and correcting product variance. Examples of Quality Control include completing a job-ready checklist and performing inspections of installed work. Ultimately, the goal is to create a formal system that documents the structure, responsibilities, and procedures required to achieve effective quality management. QA is a process-based approach to optimizing effectiveness, efficiency, and variance prevention.
