About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Palantir Foundry Lead to own the design, delivery, and governance of our Foundry platform implementation. This individual will serve as the technical and strategic authority for Foundry across the organization — leading a team of data engineers and analysts, architecting scalable data pipelines, and ensuring the platform delivers measurable business value across multiple stakeholder groups. The ideal candidate combines deep hands-on Foundry expertise with the leadership skills to mentor a team, engage senior stakeholders, and drive platform adoption at scale.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end design, development, and deployment of data pipelines, ontologies, and applications within Palantir Foundry.
- Serve as the primary technical owner for Foundry architecture decisions, including data modeling, code/data workbooks, transforms (PySpark/SQL), and ontology object/action design.
- Manage the full data lifecycle in Foundry: ingestion, transformation, quality validation, lineage tracking, and publishing to downstream consumers.
- Establish and enforce platform governance standards — access controls, data classification, markings/policies, and compliance with internal security and regulatory requirements.
- Partner with business stakeholders, product owners, and data science teams to translate requirements into scalable Foundry solutions (Workshop apps, Quiver dashboards, Slate/Contour reporting).
- Lead and mentor a team of Foundry developers/data engineers, providing technical guidance, code review, and career development.
- Own platform performance, cost optimization, and technical debt reduction across pipelines and datasets.
- Manage relationships with Palantir's delivery/customer success teams, including participation in roadmap discussions and escalation management.
- Drive best practices for CI/CD, version control, and testing within the Foundry environment (e.g., using Foundry's Code Repositories, checks, and branching strategies).
- Support integration of Foundry with upstream/downstream systems (cloud data warehouses, APIs, enterprise applications).
- Create and maintain technical documentation, runbooks, and training materials for platform users.
- Stay current on new Foundry capabilities (AIP, Ontology SDK, Foundry ML, etc.) and evaluate applicability to business use cases.
Required Qualifications
- 6+ years of experience in data engineering, platform engineering, or enterprise data architecture roles.
- 3+ years of hands-on experience building and operating solutions on Palantir Foundry, including pipelines, ontology, and application layers.
- Strong proficiency in PySpark, SQL, and Python for data transformation and pipeline development.
- Demonstrated experience designing ontology-based data models and object/action/link structures.
- Solid understanding of data governance, access controls, and security frameworks in enterprise environments.
- Experience with CI/CD practices, version control (Git), and automated testing for data pipelines.
- Prior experience leading or mentoring a technical team (formal or informal leadership).
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical audiences.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
Preferred Qualifications
- Palantir Foundry certification(s) (e.g., Foundry Data Engineer, Foundry Solution Architect).
- Experience with Foundry AIP (AI Platform) or Foundry ML for applied AI/ML use cases.
- Background in a regulated industry (finance, healthcare, government/defense, insurance).
- Experience integrating Foundry with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and enterprise data warehouses (Snowflake, Databricks, Redshift).
- Familiarity with data cataloging, metadata management, and lineage tools.
- Prior experience as a Palantir Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE) or in a Palantir-adjacent consulting role is a strong plus.
- Relevant certifications: CISSP, AWS/Azure/GCP data certifications, or equivalent.
What Success Looks Like
- Foundry pipelines are reliable, well-documented, and meet defined SLAs for data freshness and quality.
- The platform governance model is clearly defined, adopted, and auditable.
- Business stakeholders report high satisfaction with Foundry-delivered applications and dashboards.
- The engineering team demonstrates growing Foundry proficiency and reduced onboarding time for new hires.
