Position Title: District Plumber
Department: Maintenance Department
Contract: 235 Days
Reports To: Director of Maintenance
Position Summary
Madison County Schools is seeking a skilled, dependable, and self-motivated District Plumber to join the Maintenance Department. This position is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing plumbing systems throughout the district's facilities. The successful candidate will ensure plumbing systems operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with all applicable plumbing codes while providing exceptional service to students, staff, and the community.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Technical or vocational training in plumbing preferred.
- Journeyman or Master Plumber license preferred but not required.
- Minimum of three (3) years of commercial or institutional plumbing experience preferred.
- Knowledge of Mississippi plumbing codes and industry standards.
- Experience with domestic water, sanitary sewer, storm drainage, natural gas, and commercial plumbing systems.
- Ability to read blueprints, plumbing schematics, and technical manuals.
- Experience operating drain cleaning and diagnostic equipment.
- Valid Mississippi driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
- Strong communication, organizational, and customer service skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair plumbing systems throughout district facilities.
- Repair leaks in water, sewer, and gas piping systems.
- Install and repair faucets, sinks, toilets, urinals, flush valves, water fountains, bottle filling stations, and plumbing fixtures.
- Diagnose and repair commercial water heaters and circulating systems.
- Maintain and repair backflow prevention devices as directed.
- Clear clogged drains and sewer lines using appropriate equipment.
- Install and repair piping using copper, PVC, CPVC, PEX, cast iron, and other approved materials.
- Assist with plumbing work associated with renovation and construction projects.
- Perform preventive maintenance on plumbing systems and equipment.
- Respond promptly to plumbing emergencies, including water leaks and sewer backups.
- Coordinate with contractors and vendors when necessary.
- Maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, and preventive maintenance activities.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Participate in after-hours emergency response when required.
- Assist other maintenance personnel as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Maintenance.
Physical Requirements
- Frequently lift and carry up to 75 pounds.
- Stand, kneel, bend, crawl, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces.
- Work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Safely operate power tools, drain cleaning equipment, pipe threading equipment, and other plumbing tools.
- Perform physically demanding work for extended periods.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Thorough knowledge of commercial plumbing systems and installation practices.
- Ability to diagnose plumbing problems quickly and accurately.
- Knowledge of plumbing codes, safety regulations, and industry best practices.
- Skill in soldering, brazing, threading, pipe fitting, and fixture installation.
- Ability to read blueprints and plumbing diagrams.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to prioritize work orders and manage time effectively.
- Commitment to quality workmanship and workplace safety.
- Professional demeanor and excellent customer service skills when working in occupied schools.
Salary
Salary will be based on the Madison County Schools approved salary schedule and commensurate with experience and qualifications.
