Flood Brothers Disposal is currently hiring 1–2 Diesel Mechanics for each of the following locations:
- Harrison Garage (Chicago, IL) – 3rd Shift, 6:00 PM – 6:00 AM (schedule may vary)
- Transfer Station (Brighton Park, Chicago, IL) – 3rd Shift, 6:00 PM – 6:00 AM (schedule may vary)
Summary:
The Diesel Mechanic needs to be highly organized and communicate effectively. The primary duties include performing diagnostic testing to find faults, analyze results, repair/replace engine, steering, transmission, braking, lighting systems and other related components.
Mechanic Duties:
- Analyze/troubleshoot and repair vehicles & commercial motor vehicles.
- Perform preventative maintenance on vehicles & commercial motor vehicles.
- Maintain parts & inventory.
- Maintain detailed records of serviced vehicles.
- Test drive vehicles to gauge performance.
- Adhere to an inspection procedure checklist (Annual DOT Inspection) on Commercial Motor Vehicles.
- Ensure cleanliness of the shop.
- Inspect, diagnose and repair electrical, hydraulic, suspension, brake and air systems on a wide range of vehicles and equipment.
- Estimate time and material costs on vehicle repairs and new parts.
- Perform your work within our Standard Labor Repair Times (SRTs).
- Respond to service calls for emergency breakdowns.
- Safety checks on vehicles – the safety of every single employee and the people in our communities is our number one priority.
- Complete required paperwork, documenting parts usage, and accounting for repair times.
- Assisting senior Mechanics in the completion of project work.
- Reviews, completes, or assigns repairs identified on Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports.
- Maintains a clean, safe work area in compliance with Corporate / OSHA Standards and performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures.

Qualifications:
Education/Specialized Knowledge/Professional Certifications:
- Certified Diesel Tech preferred.
- A/C Certified preferred.
- DOT Air Brakes Certified preferred.
- Knowledge of diagnostic testing on vehicles and engines.
- Electrical (wiring) knowledge preferred.
- Aptitude for mathematics and science.
- Advanced knowledge of diesel engine components.
Experience:
- 3+ years of experience as a mechanic with emphasis in diesel engines and/or commercial motor vehicles is preferred.
Skills/Abilities:
- Proficiency with maintenance and repair tools.
- Highly organized and able to multitask.
- Attention to detail.
- Good computer skills.
- Ability to adapt and learn new technology.
Working Conditions:
- Operation within a fast-paced environment.
- Exposed to moving mechanical parts, vehicles, heavy construction equipment, toxic or caustic chemicals, and outside weather conditions.
- Noise level is usually moderate, but can be high and requires personal hearing protection on occasion at job sites, plants and laboratories.
- Must be able to work through stressful situations while maintaining professionalism and composure.
- Local travel required.
Physical Requirements:
- Regularly required to talk or hear; frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
- Occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
- Work through stressful situations while maintaining professionalism and composure.
- Must be able to operate buttons, levers, and other controls located on various equipment.
- Must be able to maneuver in and around our plants, yards and jobsites as necessary.
- Lift/Carry up to 50 pounds frequently.
- Lift up to 100 pounds occasionally.
Pay: From $28.00 per hour
