Switchgear Technician – REAMCOPosition Overview
REAMCO is seeking a highly motivated and technically skilled Switchgear Technician to join our growing team. This role is responsible for the assembly, testing, installation support, troubleshooting, and servicing of low- and medium-voltage switchgear and power distribution equipment. Key Responsibilities
- Assemble, inspect, test, troubleshoot, and repair low- and medium-voltage switchgear, switchboards, control panels, and related electrical equipment.
- Perform electrical testing, including insulation resistance, continuity, contact resistance, functional, and operational testing using industry-standard test equipment.
- Interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, one-line drawings, and engineering documentation to ensure accurate assembly and troubleshooting.
- Install, terminate, and verify control wiring, power wiring, bus systems, protective relays, meters, and auxiliary devices.
- Perform quality inspections throughout the manufacturing and testing process to ensure compliance with company standards and customer specifications.
- Assist with factory acceptance testing (FAT) and support customer witness testing when required.
- Diagnose equipment issues and perform corrective actions both in the factory and, when required, at customer job sites.
- Document testing results, inspections, repairs, and service activities accurately for quality assurance and customer records.
- Collaborate with engineering, production, and quality teams to resolve technical issues and improve manufacturing processes.
- Follow all company safety policies, OSHA regulations, NFPA 70E requirements, and applicable National Electrical Code (NEC) standards.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Travel occasionally to customer locations for startup assistance, field service, commissioning, or warranty support.
Qualifications
- Associate degree or technical certification in Electrical Technology, Industrial Maintenance, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience will be considered.
- 3+ years of experience assembling, testing, servicing, or troubleshooting electrical switchgear, switchboards, motor control centers (MCCs), or power distribution equipment.
- Strong understanding of electrical theory, three-phase power systems, and low- and medium-voltage equipment.
- Experience reading and interpreting electrical blueprints, wiring diagrams, and control schematics.
- Proficient with electrical testing instruments including multimeters, megohmmeters (meggers), clamp meters, and other diagnostic equipment.
- Knowledge of protective relays, circuit breakers, transformers, metering equipment, and power distribution systems is preferred.
- Familiarity with UL standards, NEC requirements, and electrical manufacturing best practices.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and experience using hand tools and power tools.
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in a manufacturing environment.
- Willingness to travel occasionally for field service assignments.
- Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Eaton, Siemens, ABB, Schneider Electric, Powell, or similar switchgear products.
- Experience with protective relay testing and commissioning.
- NETA, NICET, or equivalent electrical testing certifications.
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
- Forklift and overhead crane experience.

Pay: $25.00 - $30.00 per hour
