Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Cook to join the Nutrition Services team at a behavioral health facility in Tewksbury, MA. This is a 13-week contract opportunity for a dependable professional who is passionate about preparing nutritious meals in a healthcare environment. The ideal candidate will have experience with institutional or healthcare food service and be committed to maintaining high standards of food safety and quality.
During the first two weeks, candidates will complete Monday–Friday orientation and training before transitioning to their assigned schedule.
Responsibilities
- Prepare nutritious, well-balanced meals and snacks following approved menus and USDA guidelines.
- Ensure food is prepared with proper taste, quality, and temperature.
- Inspect food quality and portion sizes before serving.
- Transport prepared meals while maintaining food safety and quality standards.
- Prepare meals for holidays and special events.
- Minimize food waste through proper planning and preparation.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen in compliance with health regulations.
- Open and close the kitchen, ensuring proper food storage and safety.
- Order and maintain food and kitchen supplies in collaboration with the Program Director.
- Build positive relationships with food vendors and suppliers.
- Participate in regular supervision meetings and support a collaborative team environment.
- Provide respectful, compassionate service in a multicultural behavioral health setting.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant cooking experience, preferably in healthcare, institutional, or food service settings.
- Training or experience in nutrition and menu planning.
- Food safety certifications (such as ServSafe and Allergy Awareness) preferred or required based on facility guidelines.
- Valid driver's license in good standing preferred.
- Ability to work effectively with individuals receiving substance abuse treatment.
- Strong communication, organization, and teamwork skills.

Pay: $19.00 - $22.00 per hour
