JOB FUNCTION:
Perform efficient and high-quality screening and confirmation procedures on blood, urine, hair, and other matrices under minimal supervision and general use of instrumental analysis techniques such as HPLC, LCMS, GC, and GCMS for analyte detection.

When primary responsibilities are met, assist other team members in completing screening or confirmation tests. Monitor inventory of laboratory supplies, chemicals, and drug standards. Prepare routinely used buffers, reagents, and drug standards. Prepare and analyze quality control samples. Support sample registration staff with sample storage and timely sample disposal following client requirements. Support quality assurance by maintaining accurate method procedures, work instructions, standard operating procedures, and forms. Participate in laboratory cross-training to support and enhance laboratory capacity and help train other analysts. Work with the screening supervisor, laboratory director, and co-workers to ensure the timely completion of samples.
PRINCIPAL WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:
Works directly with the Laboratory Supervisor and other laboratory staff to accomplish routine work and technical assignments and with the Quality Assurance department to achieve quality objectives.
COMPETENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in a related field. Four years of experience may be substituted in lieu of a bachelor's degree.
Qualification: 2-4 years of experience in a professional laboratory setting. (Fewer years of applicable experience may be considered on a case-by-case basis).
Training: Required to complete training for all documents outlined in the training matrices for each department. Must successfully complete the initial demonstration of method performance (IDMP) as required for essential job duties. Must complete annual performance competency as required by essential job duties.
Technical Knowledge: Solid understanding of laboratory techniques and laboratory equipment, such as LIMS, analytical balances, pipettes, standard preparation, centrifuge, and sample processing techniques employed in DTS drug analysis. Comprehension of quality control parameter, company quality initiatives, the ISO 17025 and other industry requirements. A general understanding of analytical chemistry as related to DTS department. Solid knowledge of laboratory production workflow.
Skills: Attention to detail, organizational and problem-solving skills, and multi- tasking ability. Ability to handle stressful situations and work in a fast-paced environment. Must be able to function independently with minimal supervision and with a team. Assist in training new team members. Must be able to identify and help solve quality problems and comply with all safety protocols. Must be able to lift 30 lbs and work with animal body fluids. Understanding of laboratory documentation procedures.
Experience: Applied knowledge and use of scientific techniques. Proven ability to work with minimum supervision, learn new tasks, communicate effectively, and work with other team members.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Assist with sample login, verification, and sample storage.
· Perform routine sample processing for various matrices using different techniques.
· Prepare reagents, quality controls, and drug standards.
· Verify and maintain common laboratory equipment.
· Direct team members to organize the daily workload and solve problems.
· Assist new team members in training initiatives.
· Dispose of hazardous waste generated from sample processing.
· Assist and direct laboratory cleaning, organization, and supply inventory.
· Maintain ongoing communication with supervisor regarding issues of concern, including those affecting client services, completion of workload, anticipated late results, laboratory safety, quality issues, required resources, non-compliance issues, human resource issues, etc.
· Basic understanding of confirmation testing using various sample clean-up techniques and HPLC, LCMS, GC, GC/MS instrumental analysis.
· Basic understanding of data review of instrumental analysis.
· Solid understanding of system suitability testing for LCMS-MS and GCMS, and ability to troubleshoot common issues.
· Comply with company safety protocols by wearing required PPE in designated laboratory areas.
· Comply with the industry code of ethics.
· Communicate all non-conformities / deficiencies in the system by issuing an official Corrective and Preventative Action plan (CAPA).
· Participate in training as required.
· Other duties as required by Industrial Laboratories.
QUALITY INITIATIVES
· Comply with all quality requirements including: training, ensuring quality control parameters are met, completing documentation and CAPA reports, and helping to ensure that all industry and regulatory requirements are being upheld.
· Work with QA department to address any deficiencies found and provide recommendations for any needed improvement.
SUPERVISION:
Perform duties under the supervision of the Laboratory Supervisor and in accordance with quality assurance/quality control requirements, as well as safety protocols.
SPECIAL FACTORS:
Occasional extra efforts to facilitate successful performance to client expectations may be necessary. Some weekend and holiday work may be necessary, particularly during the summer months.
