Overview
We are seeking an experienced Part-Time Associate Attorney licensed in South Carolina to handle a portfolio of contested and uncontested foreclosure matters, with potential exposure to bankruptcy and eviction-related proceedings. This remote position is ideal for a self-motivated attorney who enjoys managing litigation matters independently, providing strategic legal guidance, and representing clients throughout the state.
The successful candidate will work directly with clients and legal support staff to manage cases from referral through resolution, including court appearances, legal research, motion practice, and client communications. While the position is remote, regular attendance at court hearings and proceedings throughout South Carolina is required.
Responsibilities
- Manage contested and uncontested foreclosure matters from initiation through resolution.
- Represent clients at mediations, hearings, trials, and other court proceedings throughout South Carolina.
- Draft and review pleadings, motions, correspondence, affidavits, and other legal documents.
- Analyze complaints, motions, judgments, and case files to develop litigation strategies and recommendations.
- Conduct legal research and provide thorough legal analysis regarding case-specific issues and applicable laws.
- Communicate directly with clients regarding case status, legal strategy, risk assessment, and recommendations.
- Handle bankruptcy and eviction-related matters as assigned.
- Collaborate with internal teams to ensure timely progression of files and adherence to client requirements.
- Maintain compliance with court deadlines, procedural requirements, and client expectations.
- Deliver exceptional client service while effectively managing a high-volume caseload.
Requirements
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
- Active South Carolina Bar membership in good standing and ability to maintain all licensing requirements.
- Minimum of five (5) years of legal experience.
- Demonstrated experience handling contested and uncontested foreclosure litigation.
- Strong legal research, writing, analytical, and advocacy skills.
- Ability to independently manage litigation matters and prioritize competing deadlines.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Must reside in South Carolina, with preference given to candidates located near Columbia, Florence, or Charleston.
- Ability to travel throughout South Carolina and attend in-person hearings as required.
- Availability to work approximately 20-25 hours per week, with flexibility to work additional hours if desired.
- This position is part-time; however, the firm must serve as the attorney's primary law firm employer.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience appearing before South Carolina Circuit Courts and Masters-in-Equity.
- Experience handling bankruptcy-related matters and creditor representation.
- Background in foreclosure, mortgage servicing, creditor's rights, bankruptcy, or eviction proceedings.
- Experience representing financial institutions, mortgage servicers, lenders, or investors.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a remote environment while maintaining ownership of a caseload.
Pay: $55.00 - $70.00 per hour
