About Just Playing
Just Playing brings high-energy sports, fitness, games, and enrichment activities directly to schools throughout the Long Beach, California area.
Our programs are designed to get kids moving, build confidence, encourage teamwork, and create an environment where every child feels included and successful.
We work with groups of students ranging from TK through 8th grade, introducing them to a variety of sports, games, and activities in a fun, encouraging, and positive atmosphere.

What You'll Do
As a Just Playing Coach, you will:
- Lead and assist with fun, organized sports and fitness activities for groups of children
- Teach basic skills and rules for a variety of sports and games
- Keep students active, engaged, encouraged, and having fun
- Demonstrate activities and participate alongside the kids
- Create a positive and inclusive environment for children of all athletic abilities
- Encourage teamwork, sportsmanship, confidence, and effort
- Help set up and break down sports equipment before and after programs
- Work together with other Just Playing coaches and school staff
- Follow prepared activities, rotations, and lesson plans
- Help maintain a safe, organized, high-energy environment
- Be a positive role model for our students
Who We're Looking For
You do not need to be a professional athlete or an expert in every sport.
We are looking for people who bring great energy, are dependable, enjoy being active, and genuinely love working with kids.
Requirements
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Must have reliable transportation
- Must be able to travel to schools and program locations throughout the Long Beach, CA area
- Must enjoy working with groups of children ages TK through 8th grade
- Must be dependable, punctual, and responsible
- Must be comfortable leading and interacting with groups of children
- Must have a positive, encouraging personality
- Must be able to actively participate in sports, games, and fitness activities
- Must communicate well with children, fellow coaches, school staff, and Just Playing leadership
- Must be willing to learn and follow Just Playing activities, procedures, and coaching expectations
Experience We'd Love
Experience in any of the following is a plus:
- Coaching
- Sports or athletics
- Fitness
- Physical education
- Teaching or education
- Child development
- Recreation programs
- Summer camps
- After-school programs
- Working with elementary or middle school students
Previous coaching experience is a plus, but it is not required.
For us, the right personality, attitude, reliability, energy, and ability to connect with children are just as important.
Schedule & Pay
School Program Pay: $60 per shift
This is a part-time position working at schools and special events throughout the Long Beach, CA area.
Most opportunities take place during the school year and may include:
- Weekday after-school programs
- School-day enrichment programs
- Special events
- Field days
- Seasonal and summer opportunities
The $60 per shift rate applies to regularly scheduled school programs. Compensation for special events, field days, and other extended programs may vary depending on the event and responsibilities.
Hours and number of shifts may vary depending on school assignments and program schedules.
