At Playabilities, we are seeking a Clinical Manager at our Lenexa clinic location. Under the leadership of the Clinical Director, the Clinical Manager will be responsible for overseeing and coordinating the delivery of therapeutic services to children and adolescents.
The Clinical Manager will provide direct clinical care, supervise a team of therapists, collaborate with interdisciplinary professionals, and ensure the highest standards of care for our young patients. This role involves applying clinical expertise, leadership abilities, and a passion for working with children. The Clinical Manager is responsible for direct oversight of the day-to-day clinical delivery of their applicable location.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The duties listed below represent essential functions of the role and can be performed with or without reasonable accommodation.

Selection & Onboarding
- Screens applicants for current open positions, determines which candidates progress in the hiring process, and makes final recommendations on job offers

Supports the new therapist orientation process by establishing and reviewing pertinent parts of the orientation checklist and orienting/mentoring new therapists.

Provides proactive recommendations to Human Resources and Leadership that forecast clinical team hiring needs.

Oversight of mentorship for new hires

Participation in meetings related to metrics and hiring needs

Oversight of professional student placements in collaboration with HR

Supervise & Mentor Therapist Team
- Provides leadership and guidance to therapists within the clinic, including occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists, and physical therapists

Provides leadership and guidance to the Assistant Clinical Managers (ACMs) of assigned clinic
-
Fosters a collaborative and supportive work environment that promotes teamwork, growth, and excellence in client care.

Conducts performance evaluations for clinical therapist team in the facility.

Provides constructive feedback and addresses any performance issues in a timely and professional manner.
- Utilizes Key Performance Indicators (KPI) and available metrics to identify performance development needs, recognize high performers, and reinforce their achievements or areas of growth.
- Serve as a role model by demonstrating commitment and support as new policies and processes are implemented across the organization.

Utilizes effective interpersonal techniques to resolve challenging client/family situations.

Applies appropriate interpersonal techniques to address and resolve employee issues.

Oversight of lunch and learns

Oversight of discipline specific appreciation month celebrations (April, May, October)

Direct supervision of rehab technicians

Supporting with therapist transitions out of employment

Collaboration
- Collaborates with Clinical Director to maintain clinical standards of care.

Actively participates in Clinical Department meetings with all clinical management and leadership from the organization.

May be asked to co-sign documentation of therapists as needed.

Oversees execution of seasonal themes to ensure that therapy is fun, engaging, and relevant to the season, for all clients of all backgrounds.

Provides positive recognition to individual with high Therapy Value Survey (TVS) and Net Promotor Score (NPS) survey weekly

Strong and consistent collaboration with other clinical managers and members of the management team across departments

Direct Treatment
- Maintains a consolidated caseload of clients for direct treatment. Scheduled for approximately twenty hours per week of direct therapy (targeting at least eighteen hours), with reasonable accommodations available as needed.

The Clinical Manager will reserve (2) two-hour timeslots on their schedule for evaluations per week as part of their therapy-provided hours.

Clinic Administration Duties
- Organizes and maintains therapy materials at the clinic, communicates needs for replacements or new orders of clinic materials, and ensures that the clinical areas are efficiently utilized and equipped with the necessary supplies, furniture, and materials to exceed client expectations.

Promptly communicates low TVS and NPS scores to therapists ensuring effective and efficient resolution of any issues with the therapeutic match, therapy plan, family dynamics, or Playabilities relationship.

Monitors the End-of-Day report from the EMR and ensures all outstanding tickets are addressed weekly.

Promptly adheres to incident policies and procedures, ensuring that all reports are completed within 24 hours of the incident, while providing necessary support to both the team and clients as needed. Escalates all safety events to the Clinical Director.

Ensures team knowledge of, and adherence to, the clinic’s safety plan

Executes clinic tours for potential new clients and families, by request
-
Support in implementing events in accordance with the clinical department annual calendar

May be asked to participate in a committee or task force

Responds to FMLA and ADA qualifying events with confidentiality. Escalates these events to HR in a timely manner.

Reviews and processes requests for time off from therapists at their assigned clinic

Management Team Duties
- Playabilities’ Team Members will constantly strive to be the best pediatric therapy service provider in the region by continuously improving, going above and beyond, exceeding all expectations, and practicing Playabilities’ Core Values. As a manager, the Clinical Manager holds a position of trust and responsibility, entailing access to confidential information related to business strategies, financial data, employee records, proprietary knowledge, and other sensitive information. As such, they are expected to abide by the confidentiality guidelines in the Employee Handbook.

All Playabilities Team Members are required to adhere to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and maintain strict confidentiality concerning all patient, employee, and company proprietary information.

The Clinical Manager will continuously support the leadership and management teams with implementing strategies to ensure quality control of therapies, treatment, and improve current processes/practices of the clinic.

The Clinical Manager will actively participate in all EOS initiatives, including quarterly meetings, Rocks, and L10 meeting structures, to ensure alignment with organizational goals and drive continuous improvement.
- The Clinical Manager will aim to achieve at least 80% of rock completion.
- Playabilities’ Management Team focuses on the growth and well-being of the people (clients and therapists) that they serve. All managers will lead by example but understand the importance of delegation and optimizing time and energy spent on the highest needs of the clinic.

DIRECT REPORTS:

The Clinical Manager will have forty (40) hours/week of availability between 8am-6pm, Monday-Friday.

A minimum of one (1) day must include being onsite in the clinic until 6:00pm to ensure managerial coverage is available.
EDUCATION:
-
Must have a master’s or doctorate degree in their applicable therapy discipline (or equivalent) from an accredited university. (e.g., Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, or Speech Therapy)
EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum of 5 years of working in the field of pediatric therapy preferred

Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team setting.

Clear and effective verbal and written communication abilities.

Capacity to perform essential functions of the role, with or without reasonable accommodation.
SKILLS/LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/KNOWLEDGE:

Must hold and maintain current licensure or certification as required by specific discipline (e.g., Physical Therapist, Occupational Therapist, Speech-Language Pathologist) in the state of Kansas.
