Why does the job exist?
The Capital Projects Director is responsible for the statutory management of all areas for capital projects for New Mexico Higher Education Department (NMHED) to include: the management of the Draw Process for capital projects funds appropriated to NMHED for Institutions of Higher Education (IHEs); coordinating monthly meetings of NMHED Capital Projects Committee for review and
recommendation of projects for post-secondary and special school projects; developing and administering policies, procedures, standards, database, strategic initiative, reports, website, and training pertaining to the campuses of publicly funded state institutions.
How does it get done?
This position will coordinate all work and outcomes of the Capital Projects Committee; annual state-wide capital outlay hearings leading to NMHED's funding recommendation for capital projects for IHEs, special schools and tribal colleges; evaluation, audit and certification instructional and general space applied in the higher education funding formula; and annual funding recommendations for capital projects for IHEs, special schools and tribal colleges. Bill analysis during legislative session and some committee testimony is possible.

Minimum Qualification
Bachelor's degree in Education, Public Administration, or Business Administration and seven (7) years of experience as a teacher and/or program administrator. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling eleven (11) years may substitute for the required education and experience.
Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification within six (6) months of date of hire as a condition of continued employment.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive phone and personal computer usage. Direct client interaction and some travel may be required.
