Job Overview
Performs and coordinates, both in-house and third party, routine and non-routine testing and analysis of in-process materials, finished products, ingredients, manufacturing supplies, incoming raw materials, pre-shipment samples, and R&D samples to ensure compliance with established quality and food safety specifications. Makes accept/reject decisions based on predetermined criteria and places non-conforming materials or products on hold in accordance with established procedures. Responsible for maintaining accurate records of analyses, storing and evaluating samples in compliance with the sample retain program, and promptly communicating test results and quality concerns to supervisory and production personnel. Investigates, resolves, and reports quality defects and works collaboratively with other departments to support product quality and regulatory compliance. This is a salaried non-exempt position.
Responsibilities
- Perform routine and non-routine tests on in-process samples, finished product, ingredients and manufacturing supplies.
- Perform routine laboratory analyses including pH, salinity, sensory evaluations, necessary product quality evaluations, and other analytical tests as required.
- Collect product, ingredient, environmental, and sanitation samples according to established sampling plans.
- Prepare, document, package, and coordinate shipment of samples to third-party laboratories while maintaining proper chain of custody.
- Review third-party laboratory reports and communicate out-of-specification results or quality concerns to Quality Management.
- Assist in the auditing of the Master Calibration Schedule to verify required calibrations are completed on schedule and properly documented.
- Review incoming Certificates of Analysis (COAs) to verify compliance with established raw material and packaging specifications.
- Review production and quality records for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with company procedures.
- Assist with sanitation verification activities, including ATP, Allergen verification, and environmental swabbing, as required.
- Support investigations of consumer complaints, product quality issues, nonconforming materials, and process deviations through data collection and documentation.
- Maintain accurate laboratory records, testing documentation, sample retention records, and electronic databases.
- Communicate quality concerns, testing results, and trends to Quality and Production leadership.
Skills
- Strong mechanical knowledge with the ability to interpret blueprints and technical drawings accurately.
- Experience with calibration and use of precision measurement tools such as calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and coordinate measuring machines.
- Familiarity with quality standards including ISO 9001, ISO 13485 (medical devices), FDA regulations, HACCP, CGMP, and related quality systems.
- Proficiency in conducting quality audits and implementing quality assurance processes within a manufacturing setting.
- Knowledge of visual inspection techniques using vision inspection systems for defect detection.
- Analytical skills for data collection, analysis, and reporting on quality metrics.
- Ability to operate manufacturing equipment safely while ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
- Mechanical blueprint interpretation skills combined with GD&T expertise for precise measurement verification.

- Maintain laboratory equipment and perform routine calibration verification, maintenance, and troubleshooting of laboratory instruments as required.
- Maintain laboratory housekeeping and ensure compliance with GMP, food safety, and safety requirements.
- Assist during internal audits, regulatory inspections, customer audits, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Position Qualifications:
- Minimum 3 years related work experience.
- Basic computer skills.
- Basic math skills of addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and percentages.
- Ability to interpret graphs and read measurements.
- Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Basic microbial knowledge helpful.
- Education: High school diploma or GED required; college degree preferred.
