Medical Assistant – Orthopedic Surgery

TJH Medical Services, PC is a physician group network. TJH is affiliated with Jamaica Hospital Medical Center and Flushing Hospital Medical Center. The Department of Orthopedic Surgery specializes in diagnosing and treating musculoskeletal conditions. Our practice consists of 3 outpatient surgical offices that offer high-quality, patient centered care for various Orthopedic issues, including joint replacement, fracture care, sports and upper extremity injuries.
What You’ll Do
As a Medical Assistant for Orthopedic Surgery, you will support our orthopedic surgeons by performing both clinical and administrative tasks to ensure the efficient operation of the orthopedic department.
· Escort patients to examination rooms and prepare them for evaluations.
· Obtain medical histories and current medications, and enter in EPIC, our EMR system.
· Assist physicians during orthopedic procedures, including the application and removal of casts, splints, and braces.
· Prepare and set up sterile instruments and equipment for minor procedures.
· Prepare medications and injections as directed by the physician.
· Clean exam rooms and restock supplies after examinations are completed.
· Monitor medical supplies to maintain adequate inventory levels.
· Handle insurance authorizations, referrals, and coordinate with other physician offices and clinical departments, as necessary.
· Answer all incoming phone calls and help with scheduling patient appointments.
· Assist with scheduling imaging/diagnostic appointments and follow up office visits for the patients.
· Maintain all imaging logs on a weekly basis.
· Review physicians clinical schedule and work with physician assistant and secretary for any appointment that needs to be rearranged.
Requirements
· Certified Medical Assistant
· High School graduate
· 1+years clinical experience
· Must be able to work at all outpatient offices (Jamaica, Woodside and Flushing)
· EMR/EPIC experience
· Bilingual (English/Spanish), preferred
· Have a Team Player Attitude, is energetic, with outstanding organizational skills
· Attention to detail, and willing to take initiative
· Ability to multitask
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $27.00 - $29.00 per hour
