POSITION TITLE: Machine Specialist Technician

Position Summary
The Machine Specialist Technician is responsible for operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting poultry processing machines, including brand new high-speed Baader equipment, commonly used in the poultry industry. This role involves performing routine observations and inspections, ensuring machine efficiency, and minimizing downtime. It also includes making appropriate adjustments to the equipment throughout the day. The role includes assisting with repairs and preventative maintenance, replacing worn components to ensure optimal performance and meet food safety standards. Collaboration with production teams and other maintenance staff is required, as quick responses to equipment issues are critical to keeping production lines running smoothly. Over time, experienced Machine Specialist Technicians may also help train new team members and may have the potential to advance to supervisory roles.
Key Results Areas
Utilize strong mechanical ability, troubleshooting skills, and experience working with automated processing equipment
Proficiency with tools such as diagnostic devices, PLC (programmable logic controller) systems, and basic mechanical tools is essential
Employ attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication Ensure proper machine operation, swift issue resolution, and minimal production downtime Essential Functions/Responsibilities
Continuously monitor and maintain all aspects of the equipment used in the process for efficiency and function.
Work with Quality Control and Production personnel to make adjustments as needed based on product requirements and size to ensure optimum equipment operation. Includes machine guides, blades, settings, vacuum, water, and air
Assist with all necessary maintenance and rebuild repairs of equipment and electrical systems, including: switches, motors, controllers, PLCs, bearings, gearboxes, guides, blades, pulleys and belts, chains and motor drives
Regularly test systems and operations to ensure electrical and mechanical components are operating safely and effectively within machine specifications
Maintain adequate inventory of needed parts for repairs
Evaluate the early wear of parts/failure of components for root cause analysis
Schedule preventative maintenance and repairs
Communicate effectively and work as part of a team with supervisors, production, quality assurance, maintenance, office personnel, and vendors to ensure a successful production operation environment
Attend all planned meetings and training as required
Maintain a positive and collaborative work environment
Continually evaluate production processes and systems for efficiencies, including equipment use, maintenance, and improvements Non-Essential Functions
Accomplishes all other tasks as assigned or requested Qualifications
Proven experience as a maintenance technician or machine operator
Strong technical knowledge of mechanical equipment, electrical equipment, and maintenance procedures
Experience in analyzing wear conditions and planning preventative maintenance
Strong problem-solving ability
Must supply your own standard hand tools and storage chest
Basic computer skills, experience with Maintenance Management Software systems, preferred
Experience in a food production organization, preferred Working Conditions: May require evening, weekend, or on-call hours during emergencies
Work may involve exposure to loud noise, hazardous materials, or heavy machinery
Frequent walking, standing, and lifting may be required
