Position Summary
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Orthopedic Surgery Physician Assistant (PA-C) to join our surgical team. This position is dedicated to intraoperative first assist in orthopedic procedures. The ideal candidate is highly collaborative, detail-oriented, and thrives in a fast-paced operating room environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as first assist in orthopedic surgeries (e.g., joint replacement, sports medicine, trauma, spine as applicable)
- Provide intraoperative support, including:
- Surgical exposure and retraction
- Hemostasis assistance
- Suturing and wound closure
- Instrument handling and sterile field maintenance
- Anticipate surgeon needs to ensure efficient and safe procedural flow
- Maintain strict adherence to sterile technique and OR protocols
- Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and OR staff to optimize surgical outcomes
- Assist with operating room preparation and turnover as needed
- Document intraoperative details accurately in the EMR
Qualifications
- Current Physician Assistant certification (PA-C)
- Active and unrestricted state PA license (or eligibility)
- BLS and ACLS certification required
- Minimum [1–2+] years of orthopedic and/or surgical experience preferred
- Experience as an OR first assist strongly preferred
- Excellent technical, communication, and teamwork skills
