Responsibilities
- Prepare treatment rooms by sterilizing and arranging dental instruments, equipment, and supplies in accordance with infection prevention management and aseptic techniques.
- Assist dentists during various procedures such as oral surgery, endodontics, prosthodontics, and pediatric dentistry, ensuring patient comfort and safety.
- Take and develop dental X-rays using dental x-ray equipment and 3D scanners while adhering to HIPAA regulations to protect patient confidentiality.
- Manage patient records using electronic medical record (EMR) systems like Eaglesoft, Dentrix, or similar software, ensuring accuracy in medical documentation and coding.
- Perform vital signs assessments and medical imaging to support comprehensive patient evaluations.
- Educate patients on oral health practices, post-treatment care, and explain dental terminology clearly to enhance their understanding of procedures.
- Maintain clinical confidentiality policies while processing dental instruments and sterilizing equipment to uphold infection control standards.
Skills
- Proficiency in dental assisting techniques including four-handed dentistry and chairside assisting for various specialties such as pediatric dentistry, oral surgery, endodontics, and prosthodontics.
- Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, dental equipment, and medical terminology relevant to general dentistry practice.
- Experience with dental sterilization procedures, infection prevention management, aseptic technique, and healthcare infection control expertise.
- Familiarity with EMR systems like Eaglesoft or Dentrix for efficient patient management and documentation.
- Ability to operate dental X-ray machines safely while maintaining compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with team members including dental receptionists and other healthcare professionals.
- Knowledge of medical coding practices related to dental procedures to ensure accurate billing and recordkeeping.
