Fleet Maintenance Technician
Position Overview
NOTA is seeking an experienced Fleet Maintenance Technician to help build and support our growing fleet maintenance operation. This is a unique opportunity to join NOTA as we develop a new maintenance facility and establish our fleet maintenance program from the ground up.
The Fleet Maintenance Technician will perform preventative maintenance, inspections, diagnostics, and routine repairs while also helping design and organize NOTA’s new maintenance workspace. This position will have the opportunity to provide input on mechanic bay layout, workflow, tools, equipment, inventory systems, and maintenance processes.
We are looking for an experienced maintenance professional who enjoys hands-on work and wants to play a key role in building an efficient, safe, and reliable fleet maintenance operation.
Compensation
Competitive hourly rate of $30.00 - $40.00 per hour, based on experience, certifications, and the knowledge and expertise the candidate brings to help build NOTA’s fleet maintenance operation.
Essential Responsibilities
- Perform preventative maintenance, inspections, diagnostics, and routine repairs on fleet vehicles.
- Complete services including oil changes, tire rotations, tire replacements, inspections, and general vehicle maintenance.
- Inspect and maintain wheelchair lifts, accessibility equipment, and related vehicle systems.
- Diagnose vehicle issues and recommend appropriate repairs or service needs.
- Identify potential safety concerns and determine necessary maintenance actions.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, service documentation, and repair histories.
- Develop and support preventative maintenance schedules and procedures.
- Assist with establishing fleet maintenance processes, best practices, and workflow.
- Provide recommendations regarding tools, equipment, parts, and supply needs.
- Assist with creating and maintaining parts and inventory systems.
- Help determine when repairs should be completed internally versus outsourced.
- Provide input on the design, organization, and setup of the new maintenance facility and technician work areas.
- Work collaboratively with Operations and leadership to support vehicle safety, reliability, and availability.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in fleet maintenance, automotive repair, or a related field preferred.
- ASE certification required.
- Strong knowledge of preventative maintenance practices and vehicle inspections.
- Experience diagnosing vehicle issues and determining appropriate repair needs.
- Experience working with commercial vehicles, transit vehicles, passenger vans, or similar fleet operations preferred.
- Knowledge of maintenance scheduling, recordkeeping, and service processes.
- Experience organizing tools, equipment, inventory, or maintenance workflows.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to communicate effectively with operations staff and leadership.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience helping establish or improve a fleet maintenance program.
- Experience setting up a new maintenance facility, technician workspace, or shop environment.
- Experience recommending tools, equipment, and maintenance solutions.
- Experience with fleet maintenance software or vehicle tracking systems.
- Additional technical certifications.
- Experience with wheelchair lifts or accessibility equipment.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to perform routine vehicle maintenance tasks.
- Ability to safely use standard automotive tools, diagnostic equipment, and shop equipment.
- Ability to perform physical tasks associated with vehicle servicing.
Schedule
- Full-time position
- 40 hours per week
- Anticipated start date: Fall 2026- This position is being created as part of NOTA’s expansion of its fleet maintenance operations. The anticipated fall 2026 start date aligns with the opening and setup of our new maintenance facility, providing the selected candidate the opportunity to help establish the workspace, processes, and systems from the beginning.
