PetVets Animal Hospital | Oak Park, IL
Full-Time | In-Person | Previous Veterinary Hospital Experience Required
PetVets Animal Hospital is a privately owned, independent, AAHA-accredited small animal hospital in Oak Park, IL. We are looking for an experienced Veterinary Assistant who wants to be part of a skilled, supportive team where patient care, communication, and thoughtful medicine still come first.
This is not an entry-level animal care position. We are looking for someone who has already worked in a veterinary hospital or animal hospital setting and understands the pace, teamwork, communication, and patient-handling skills needed in daily practice.
The right person is dependable, compassionate, steady under pressure, comfortable with dogs and cats, and able to support doctors, technicians, patients, clients, and coworkers with professionalism and care.
What We’re Looking For First
We are looking for a veterinary assistant who can bring real clinic experience to the team.
Qualified applicants should have experience with:
- Safe animal restraint and patient handling
- Assisting doctors and technicians during exams and treatments
- Preparing exam rooms, treatment areas, and supplies
- Supporting patient care during appointments and procedures
- Communicating clearly with doctors, technicians, assistants, and front desk staff
- Helping maintain clean, stocked, organized work areas
- Following hospital procedures and medical team direction
- Working with both routine and more sensitive patient situations
Experience with blood draws, catheter placement, radiographs, lab work, surgical prep, hospitalized patient care, or medication preparation is a plus, but not required for every applicant.
We are willing to train the right experienced veterinary assistant on our specific workflow, systems, and standards.
The Person Who Will Do Well Here
You may be a strong fit for PetVets if you are:
- Experienced in a veterinary hospital or animal hospital environment
- Calm, kind, and attentive with patients
- Comfortable with safe restraint and hands-on patient care
- Able to follow directions accurately
- Dependable, punctual, and consistent
- A good communicator with coworkers and clients
- Organized and willing to help where needed
- Able to move between exam rooms, treatment, lab, radiology, and general hospital support
- Interested in learning and building stronger clinical skills
- Someone who takes patient comfort, safety, and teamwork seriously
Regular and reliable attendance is an essential part of this position because this is an in-person patient-care role that supports daily hospital operations.
