Duties
- Support optometrists during ophthalmic patient examinations by preparing and operating medical equipment such as A-scan biometers, tonometers, and ophthalmic diagnostic imaging devices
- Assist with patient intake procedures, including collecting medical history, verifying insurance information, and updating electronic health records (EHR) systems in compliance with HIPAA and clinical confidentiality policies
- Maintain strict aseptic techniques during clinical procedures to ensure patient safety and prevent infections
- Manage front desk responsibilities including scheduling appointments, answering patient inquiries, and processing payments using retail math skills
- Support the operation of medical equipment by performing routine maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting as needed
- Uphold patient confidentiality at all times by adhering to HIPAA regulations and maintaining accurate medical records in EMR/EHR systems
Skills
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology related to ophthalmology, and ophthalmic diagnostic procedures
- Experience with electronic health records (EHR)
- Familiarity with ophthalmic diagnostic imaging equipment like A-scan biometers and tonometers for eye refraction and ocular measurements
- Excellent patient service skills with a focus on direct patient care, including pediatrics when necessary
- Ability to operate medical equipment safely following aseptic techniques and clinical confidentiality policies
- Prior experience in medical office settings or clinic environments is highly desirable
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and procedures for maintaining clinical confidentiality in accordance with healthcare standards
