Mechanic – Class 8 Diesel (PM & Moderate Repairs)
$28–$30+/hr | Monday–Friday | 8:00am–5:00pm | No Weekends
Cornhusker Truck Center is hiring a full-time Mechanic to perform preventative maintenance and moderate repairs on Class 8 tractors and dry van semi-trailers.
This is a steady, weekday-only position in a clean, well-equipped shop. We are seeking a dependable, long-term team member who takes pride in thorough PM service, accurate diagnostics, and consistent quality repairs.
This role focuses on preventative maintenance and moderate repairs. Major engine overhauls and transmission rebuilds are not required.
What You’ll Do
- Perform preventative maintenance services on Class 8 diesel tractors
- Conduct DOT inspections on tractors and dry van trailers
- Repair and service air brake systems, wheel seals, and suspension components
- Perform A/C system diagnostics and repairs (compressors, leaks, system service)
- Conduct computer-based diagnostics and troubleshooting using scan tools and dignostic software
- Diagnose and repair electrical faults, sensors, and wiring issues
- Troubleshoot and repair DEF/aftertreatment system issues (regen faults, dosing systems, sensors)
- Service and repair cooling systems including radiators, water pumps, hoses, thermostats, and related components
- Service dry van trailer components including brakes, hubs, lighting, doors, and suspension
- Accurately document diagnostics and repairs on work orders
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment
This position is ideal for a fleet maintenance mechanic who prefers steady, consistent repair work over heavy engine or drivetrain rebuilds.
Compensation & Incentives
- Starting Pay: $28–$30+ per hour (based on experience)
- +$1/hour for maintaining current ASE certification
- +$1/hour for valid CDL
- Additional compensation based on verified experience and qualifications
- Performance review after 6 months

Qualifications
- Experience performing diesel truck preventative maintenance
- Working knowledge of air brake systems
- Experience performing A/C system service and repair
- Ability to perform computer diagnostics and interpret fault codes
- Experience servicing cooling systems and radiator components
- Experience with dry van trailer maintenance preferred
- Familiarity with DEF/aftertreatment systems preferred
- Ability to work independently and efficiently
- Own basic hand tools required
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- CDL preferred (must obtain within 6 months of employment)
Physical Requirements
- Regular standing, walking, bending, and lifting
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly and up to 100 lbs occasionally
- Work performed in a shop environment with moderate to loud noise levels
