Qualifications
Education: Graduate of a State Board of Nursing–approved LPN/LVN training program or completion of equivalent military training that permits licensure.
License: Current, active, unrestricted LVN license from any U.S. state, territory, or the District of Columbia.
Certifications:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) – American Heart Association or Red Cross approved.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) - American Heart Association or Red Cross approved
Experience: Minimum one (1) year of full-time experience in the past two (2) years in the assigned specialty. Must meet all continuing education and competency requirements per DHA and BAMC policies.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care under the supervision of RNs and physicians, following established clinical protocols.
- Obtain and document patient medical histories, vital signs, and assessments.
- Administer medications and prescribed treatments safely within scope of practice.
- Assist with procedures, IV insertions, phlebotomy, and specimen collection.
- Monitor and report patient progress, reactions, and changes in condition.
- Educate patients and families on care plans and discharge instructions.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in patient medical records.
- Adhere to infection control, safety, and confidentiality standards.
- Respond appropriately to medical emergencies and assist with life-saving measures as needed.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 30 lbs.
- Must be able to respond quickly to emergencies, including walking or jogging to provide assistance.
- May be required to assist patients with mobility and evacuation during emergencies.
