JOB SPECIFICS: The teacher shall serve as the education leader in a Visual
Arts classroom at ERHS beginning the 2026-2027 school year
DISTRICT AND JOB DESCRIPTION: Elk Rapids Schools has approximately 975 students in grades K-12
and is located in the northwest lower peninsula of Michigan. The District also serves as an authorizer of Mill
Creek Academy, a K-5th-grade District that educates approximately 230 students. Elk Rapids Schools is an
education leader within the Northwest Education Services Intermediate School District and is eager to

Elk Rapids High School is seeking a motivated, passionate, engaged, and dedicated Visual Arts instructor to
make a difference in our community and district. This position offers the opportunity to make a meaningful

ideal candidate will commit to educational excellence, effective classroom management, and a collaborative
approach to working with all students, colleagues, parents, and community members.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Plan and prepare learning activities and guide students towards the achievement of curriculum and district
objectives.
? Teach knowledge and skills in art, including drawing, painting, lettering, and art history
? Instruct students in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law, administrative
regulations, and procedures of the school
? Provide instruction by which students develop aesthetic concepts and appreciations and the ability
to make qualitative judgments about art
? Demonstrate techniques in activities such as drawing and painting
? Understand the versatility of acrylic paints: dry brushing, staining, layering, underpainting, and
monoprinting
? Understand a variety of “masters” techniques
? Knows and can apply elements of design and modern principles of art
? Knows the fundamentals and different approaches to drawing media techniques
? Instruct students in the proper care and use of tools and equipment
? Organize storage areas and control use of materials, equipment, and tools to prevent loss or
abuse, and to minimize time required for distribution and collection
? Evaluate each student’s performance and growth in knowledge and aesthetic understandings, and
prepare progress reports
? Select and requisition books, instructional materials, tools, instructional aids, and maintain required
inventory records
? Plan and present art displays and exhibitions designed to exhibit students’ work for the school and
the community
? May sponsor exhibits from outside the school
? Develop and maintain effective working relationships, both internal and external to the school
district
? Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the school
and/or in self-selected professional growth activities
? Communicate with parents and school counselors on pupil progress
? Participate in curriculum and other developmental programs, such as an after-school art club
? Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the Administration

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:Required:
? Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with Visual Arts Education (LQ) endorsement K–12
? Completion of an approved teacher preparation program
? Bachelor's Degree (minimum)
? Ability to Secure Teacher Certification
? Demonstrated ability to plan and deliver engaging standards-based instruction.

Salary: Based on experience and qualifications within the EREA Contract.
