CNC LATHE MACHINIST
Position Summary:
The CNC Lathe Machinist is responsible for setting up and operating Fanuc-controlled CNC lathes to produce precision aerospace components in accordance with engineering drawings, customer requirements, work instructions, and company quality management system requirements. The position supports turning operations through setup, operation, in-process inspection, documentation, and communication of machining or quality concerns.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
· Set up and operate Fanuc-controlled CNC lathes for production of precision machined components.
· Review job travelers, drawings, setup sheets, tooling requirements, and inspection requirements before beginning work.
· Load, verify, and run CNC programs in accordance with established procedures.
· Install and adjust workholding, cutting tools, inserts, fixtures, and offsets as required.
· Perform first-piece, in-process, and final dimensional checks using appropriate measuring equipment.
· Make tool wear, offset, and minor process adjustments to maintain dimensional control.
· Monitor machine operation, tooling condition, surface finish, and part quality throughout the manufacturing process.
· Identify and communicate machining problems, tooling issues, nonconforming conditions, and process improvement opportunities.
· Complete production records, inspection records, and other required documentation accurately and timely.
· Maintain equipment, tooling, gauges, and work area in accordance with company procedures.
· Comply with applicable safety, quality, and manufacturing requirements.
Minimum Education:
· High school diploma, GED, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Minimum Qualifications:
· Experience operating CNC lathes in a manufacturing environment.
· Experience with Fanuc CNC controls or similar CNC controls.
· Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and manufacturing documentation.
· Experience using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, indicators, bore gauges, and thread gauges.
· Ability to perform basic CNC offset adjustments and tool wear compensation.
· Basic computer proficiency and ability to complete production documentation.
Preferred Qualifications:
· Aerospace manufacturing experience.
· Experience setting up CNC lathes independently.
· Experience machining alloy steel, stainless steel, carburized or heat-treated materials, or other aerospace materials.
· Experience working in an AS9100 or ISO 9001 quality management system.
· Experience holding close tolerances and working from GD&T requirements.
· Experience with gear, shaft, spline, or precision rotating component manufacturing.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
· Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English sufficient to perform job duties safely and effectively.
· Ability to communicate professionally with supervisors, coworkers, engineering, quality, and production personnel.
· Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, work instructions, routers, and related manufacturing documentation.
· Ability to perform mathematical calculations involving decimals, fractions, basic geometry, and tolerances.
· Ability to use computers or manufacturing systems to access work instructions, enter production information, and complete documentation.
· Ability to understand feeds, speeds, tooling geometry, tool wear, and basic machining principles.
· Ability to recognize chatter, taper, poor surface finish, tool failure, and other machining conditions.
