POSITION DESCRIPTION
Position Title: Material Handler I
Department: Production / Warehouse
Reports To: Production Lead
Classification: Full-Time | Non-Exempt | Paid Weekly
Schedule:
1st Shift: Monday–Friday | 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Compensation:
$18.00–$22.00 per hour depending on experience
POSITION SUMMARY
The Material Handler I supports production, warehouse, shipping, quality, and facility operations by safely receiving, handling, inspecting, packaging, moving, and preparing materials and fabricated components.
This role serves as one of the company’s first lines of defense in maintaining quality, shipping accuracy, material traceability, and customer satisfaction.
The ideal candidate is dependable, detail-oriented, safety-minded, willing to work with their hands, and understands that quality and accuracy are equally as important as speed.
This position offers opportunities to grow into production, machine operation, fabrication, and leadership roles as the company expands.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Safety & Work Practices
- Follow all company safety policies and procedures
- Wear required PPE and maintain safe work practices
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area
- Report unsafe conditions and damaged equipment immediately
Shipping, Receiving & Material Handling
- Receive inbound inventory and verify quantities, condition, identification, and paperwork accuracy
- Store materials in designated warehouse locations
- Pull and stage materials for production and customer orders
- Load and unload trucks and trailers safely and efficiently
- Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, overhead cranes, and material handling equipment
- Prepare materials for production and shipment
Quality, Inspection & Document Verification
- Inspect incoming materials for visible damage, quantity accuracy, and proper identification
- Verify packing lists, shipping documents, labels, tags, and work instructions for discrepancies
- Assist in maintaining material traceability and identification throughout production and shipping
- Verify outbound shipments match customer requirements and shipping paperwork
- Escalate quality concerns, shortages, damages, or documentation discrepancies immediately
- Support accurate handling and retention of production and shipping records where required
- Read and follow work instructions, labels, drawings, and customer documentation
Production Support
- Assist production personnel with movement and setup of materials
- Load and unload production equipment as assigned
- Clean, deburr, grind, and prepare parts for production or shipment
- Assist with marking, sorting, packaging, and organizing finished products
- Support fabrication, assembly, and miscellaneous shop activities as assigned
Packaging, Export Support & Shipment Preparation
- Package finished goods according to customer and company requirements
- Strap, band, wrap, palletize, and secure materials for shipment
- Mark parts and packages per customer requirements and internal standards
- Assist with export shipment preparation including basic blocking, bracing, packaging, and crating activities
Facility Support & Housekeeping
- Help maintain clean shop, warehouse, office, restroom, and common areas
- Participate in housekeeping activities to support safety, appearance, and operational readiness
- Assist with sweeping, trash removal, cleaning, and general upkeep as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
Required: High school diploma or equivalent
- Strong reading comprehension and attention to detail
- Ability to compare documents and identify discrepancies
- Ability to safely operate forklifts and material handling equipment
- Ability to operate overhead cranes utilizing pendant or radio controls
- Ability to accurately read tape measures
- Ability to follow instructions and established procedures
- Ability to communicate in conversational English
- Positive attitude and willingness to learn
Preferred:
- Industrial, warehouse, steel, manufacturing, fabrication, or construction experience
- Experience with shipping and receiving operations
- Experience handling industrial documentation and packaging requirements
- Familiarity with measuring tools including tape measures and calipers
- Ability to read simple drawings or blueprints
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods
- Ability to repeatedly bend, squat, stoop, twist, kneel, and reach
- Ability to routinely lift and carry 25–50 lbs
- Ability to safely operate powered industrial equipment
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in changing industrial conditions
- Ability to wear required PPE throughout shift
