The Waterjet Assembly Technician is responsible for assembling, testing, troubleshooting, and preparing waterjet cutting systems for customer delivery. This position ensures that waterjet machines are assembled according to specifications, meet quality standards, and operate reliably. The Waterjet Assembly Technician utilizes mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic assembly skills to support the successful production of high-quality waterjet systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform mechanical assembly of waterjet cutting systems according to engineering drawings, assembly instructions, and bills of materials (BOM). Install machine frames, gantries, cutting heads, water delivery systems, pumps, tanks, and other system components to build complete waterjet machines.
- Wire and connect electrical components, control panels, sensors, switches, motors, and machine controls to ensure proper operation of waterjet systems. Interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and layout drawings to perform accurate installation and integration.
- Install, connect, and test hydraulic and pneumatic components including pumps, valves, regulators, tubing, and related systems. Verify proper operation and performance of all fluid power systems.
- Install and align machine components such as linear guides, bearings, drive systems, motors, cutting heads, abrasive delivery systems, and motion control components. Adjust and calibrate assemblies to meet alignment, tolerance, and performance requirements.
- Conduct functional testing, system checks, and operational diagnostics to verify performance of assembled waterjet equipment. Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and control system issues using diagnostic tools, test equipment, and technical documentation.
- Inspect assembled components and completed machines to ensure compliance with engineering specifications and quality standards. Perform visual inspections, dimensional checks, and functional testing to identify defects, deviations, or non-conformances.
- Maintain accurate records of assembly activities, parts usage, testing results, and quality inspections. Document assembly procedures, troubleshooting efforts, corrective actions, and machine completion status through work orders and manufacturing records.
- Follow all company safety policies and procedures to maintain a safe work environment. Utilize proper PPE and safe work practices when working with heavy equipment, electrical systems, pressurized components, lifting devices, and other assembly-related hazards.
- Work closely with engineering, production, service, and quality personnel to resolve technical issues, support design changes, and implement process improvements. Communicate assembly progress, concerns, and recommendations effectively with team members and supervisors.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on assembly efficiency, product quality, safety, and customer satisfaction. Provide recommendations for design enhancements, assembly process improvements, and manufacturing best practices.
