Job Summary
At Sterling Eyecare, we believe that eye care should feel personal—not rushed, transactional, or like a retail conveyor belt. We are a proud, locally owned, independent optometry practice serving the fast-growing Sterling Ranch community.
We prioritize exceptional patient care, build genuine relationships with our neighbors, and maintain a calm, collaborative work environment.
While prior optometric or ophthalmic technician experience is highly preferred, our priority is finding a candidate with the right attitude. If you have a strong background in customer service, hospitality, or retail, a warm personality, and a sharp attention to detail, we are fully open and excited to train the right person.
What You’ll Do (Responsibilities)
As an Optometric Technician, you are the heartbeat of our patient flow, ensuring that everyone feels comfortable, valued, and cared for from the moment they step into the exam area.
- Patient Workup: Greet patients warmly, escort them to exam rooms, and accurately document their medical histories, chief complaints, and current medications within our electronic medical records system. Prepare patients for examination by the doctor and maintain a flow of scheduled exams. Instill diagnostic eye drops when indicated.
- Pre-Testing & Diagnostics: Measure visual acuity and intraocular pressures, assess confrontation visual fields and extraocular muscle function, perform color vision, stereopsis and pupil testing when appropriate. Operate our advanced diagnostic technology to gather initial data for the optometrist. This includes running the digital refractometer, corneal topography, visual field testing, fundus photography and coherence tomography (OCT) imaging. (Don't worry—if you haven't used these specific machines before, we will fully train you!)
- Contact Lens Support: Help patients navigate contact lens insertion and removal (I&R) training, manage contact lens trials, and ensure orders are processed smoothly.
- Clinic Flow & Maintenance: Keep exam lanes fully stocked, clean, and organized to ensure a seamless day for the doctor.
- Team Collaboration: Because we are a close-knit independent team, you'll occasionally assist with front-desk support, such as answering phones, scheduling, or checking patients in when needed.
Who We Are Looking For (Qualifications)
- Attitude First: You are genuinely friendly, professional, patient-focused, and comfortable communicating with people of all ages all day.
- Experience: Previous medical office, optical, or retail/hospitality customer service experience is preferred.
- Tech-Savvy & Detail-Oriented: This role requires constant navigation of electronic health records and diagnostic software. You should be highly comfortable learning and working in various different computer systems and software platforms, switching between applications efficiently, and typing accurately.
- Reliable Team Player: You thrive in a small, close-knit team environment where everyone supports one another and takes pride in a job well done.
Room for Growth
We are a young, scaling independent practice. As our patient base and the local Sterling Ranch community continue to expand, we plan to grow with it, creating excellent long-term career advancement opportunities for a dedicated team member who wants to grow with us.
