Position Overview
The Sandwich Glass Museum is seeking a detail-oriented and customer-focused Retail Shop Assistant Manager to support the daily operations of our museum shop. This position plays a key role in creating an exceptional visitor experience while managing inventory systems, supporting online sales operations, and driving in-store retail success.
The ideal candidate will have strong organizational skills, retail experience, an eye for merchandising, and the ability to balance behind-the-scenes operational responsibilities with engaging customer service.
Key ResponsibilitiesInventory Management & Operations
- Manage and maintain accurate inventory records, including receiving, stocking, transfers, and product tracking
- Assist with purchasing, vendor communication, and product replenishment as needed
- Monitor inventory levels and identify sales trends to support purchasing decisions
- Conduct regular inventory counts and assist with annual inventory processes
- Maintain organized storage areas and ensure efficient product flow from receiving to sales floor
- Track best-selling items and recommend merchandise adjustments based on customer demand
Online Sales & E-Commerce
- Oversee daily operations of the museum shop’s online store
- Process and fulfill online orders accurately and efficiently
- Maintain online product listings, including descriptions, pricing, images, and availability
- Coordinate shipping, packaging, and customer communication for online purchases
- Identify opportunities to improve online sales, customer engagement, and digital merchandising
- Assist with seasonal promotions, email campaigns, and online merchandising initiatives
In-Store Retail Sales & Visitor Experience
- Provide exceptional customer service and create a welcoming shopping experience for museum visitors
- Support daily shop operations, including opening/closing procedures, register functions, and sales reporting
- Assist with staff scheduling, training, and day-to-day supervision
- Lead by example in sales techniques, product knowledge, and customer engagement
- Maintain attractive displays and seasonal merchandising throughout the shop
- Promote museum collections, locally crafted items, and featured products
Leadership & Team Support
- Partner with the Retail Shop Manager to achieve sales goals and operational objectives
- Train and support retail associates in customer service, sales, and procedures
- Help foster a positive, collaborative, and professional team environment
- Provide feedback and recommendations to improve shop operations
Qualifications
- 2+ years of retail experience; supervisory experience preferred
- Experience with inventory management and point-of-sale systems
- Familiarity with e-commerce platforms and online order fulfillment
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to multitask in a busy museum and retail environment
- Comfortable working independently and as part of a team
- Interest in art, history, glass, craftsmanship, or museum retail is a plus
Schedule & Work Environment
- Primarily on-site in the Sandwich Glass Museum retail shop
- Schedule includes weekends, holidays, and seasonal peak periods
- Ability to stand for extended periods and assist with merchandise handling

Pay: $22.00 - $25.00 per hour
