The Journeyman Electrician plans, installs, and repairs wiring, electrical fixtures, apparatus, and control equipment by performing the following duties.
- Plan new or modify installations to minimize waste of materials.
- Provide access for future maintenance, and avoid unsightly, hazardous, and unreliable wiring, consistent with specifications and local electrical codes.
- Prepare sketches showing location of wiring and equipment, or following diagrams or blueprints.
- Measure, cut, bend, thread, assemble and install electrical conduits. Pull wiring through conduits. Splice wires by stripping insulation from terminal leads, twisting or soldering wires together, and applying tape or terminal caps. Connect wiring to lighting fixtures and power equipment.
- Install of control and distribution apparatus such as switches, relays, and circuit-breaker panels. Connect power cables to equipment, such as electric range or motor, and install grounding leads.
- Test continuity of circuits to ensure electrical compatibility and safety of components with testing instruments such as ohmmeter, battery and buzzer, multi meter, voltmeter and oscilloscope.
- Observe functioning of installed equipment or system to detect hazards and need for adjustments, relocation or replacement. Repair faulty equipment or systems.
- Communicate and interact directly with the customer, informing the customer of unexpected or additional repairs and determining customer needs.
- Ensure completed work meets quality control standards.
- Make difficult diagnoses and suggest solutions and repairs to customers.
- Communicate with scheduler to update status of repairs and estimate completion dates.
- Respond to customer inquiries and complaints.
- All Other Duties/Projects as Assigned
Qualifications:
- A valid State of Maryland Journeyman Electrician license.
- At least 3 years’ direct experience working on commercial electrical systems and controls.
- Experience in all areas of general contracting/industrial maintenance.
- Ability to work in a variety of different environments, including inclement weather and high man lifts.
- Ability to read and understand schematics and blueprints.
- Ability to work in team environment.
- Must be able to provide customer service in a professional and courteous manner
- Must have the ability and be willing to work outside of normal working hours such as off hours and weekends, in the event of unplanned outages and/or if scheduled for call shifts.
Physical Requirements:
- Good manual dexterity, eye-hand coordination, physical fitness, a good sense of balance.
- Must be able to stand, walk, bend, crawl, reach, push, pull, and climb.
- Must be able to lift 40 lbs.
Security Requirements:
- Must have the ability to acquire Federal Security Clearance.
- Required drug screening, physical, and background check.
Driving Requirements:
- A valid state driver license is required. Must be able to obtain and maintain coverage by HMG’s insurance company.
