We are seeking a reliable and experienced Yardman Driver/Yard Jockey for in-yard milk transportation. This role involves transporting trailers to and from loading docks and storage locations within the yard and ensuring timely, safe, and efficient moves to prevent downtime in the plant/cold storage operation. The ideal candidate will possess strong driving skills, familiarity with commercial vehicles, a commitment to maintaining high safety standards, and a strong sense of prioritization/multitasking. This position offers an opportunity to work with a dedicated team in a fast-paced environment, ensuring product freshness and customer satisfaction.
Schedule flexibility is a requirement, predominantly overnights. Shifts vary in length from 8-10 hours depending on the daily needs.
We are currently hiring for 2 shifts, as follows:
Position 1: 12:00am-8:00am Saturday/Monday/Tuesday/Thursday/Friday
Position 2: 8:00am-4:00pm Saturday/Monday/Tuesday/Thursday/Friday
Responsibilities
- Safely operate Class B refrigerated trucks
- Receive move requests from the plant and cold storage departments, and deliver the required moves in a timely and efficient manner
- Safely maneuver trailers up to 54' in tight locations
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the vehicle to ensure safety and compliance with transportation laws
- Maintain accurate logs of movements and regular temperature checks according to policy
- Ensure the proper handling of perishable goods, maintaining standards to ensure safety/quality of product being transported
- Communicate effectively with each department
- Follow all safety protocols related to truck driving, freight handling, and route driving
Skills
- Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with a Class B designation
- At least 3 years experience with truck driving in a yard jockey/yardman position
- Ability to load & unload heavy cargo efficiently using manual methods. For reference, each stack of milk weights approximately 300lbs, and must be manually moved with the use of a hook. Each individual case weighs 50 pounds. This position is mainly for driven trailer movements, but depending on the needs of the company manual moves of product may be occasionally necessary
- Strong driving skills with a focus on safety and adherence to traffic protocols
- Experience in delivering freight accurately within scheduled routes is preferred
Good organizational skills for managing multiple move requirements, and storage locations of up to 70 trailers
