The Department of State Hospitals – Coalinga is now accepting applications for multiple Limited Term Fulltime Pre-Licensed Psychiatric Technician (Safety) positions. These positions are temporary, made for a period not to exceed 9 months. Under general direction, the incumbent will assist licensed staff in providing custody services and basic behavioral and psychiatric nursing care to the forensic patients. In addition to their custody responsibilities, they promote and implement principles of Wellness and Recovery, and Psychiatric Rehabilitation, provide a basic level of general behavioral and psychiatric nursing care and are expected through their attitude, knowledge, and performance to facilitate the rehabilitation of patients.

All state civil service employees are currently subject to a mandatory Personal Leave Program (PLP). The PLP program reduces the monthly gross salary but provides paid leave options (PLO) leave credits in lieu of pay. The amount of salary reduction depends on the classification and associated union Bargaining Unit (BU). The BU that represents this position is BU18 and is represented by California Association of Psychiatric Technicians (CAPT). The expected salary reduction will be 3% of the salary identified above, and you will accrue 5 hours of PLP each qualifying pay period. Incumbents will be subject to the PLP salary reduction and leave accruals through June 30, 2027. Positions with time bases that are less than full-time will receive a prorated accrual of PLP that’s based on number of hours worked during the pay period.
