The Opportunity:
Washington State University's Department of Sociology in the College of Arts and Sciences is now accepting applications for a Department Operations & Program Coordinator to support the department's graduate academic program and administrative operations. The successful candidate will begin as either a Program Assistant or Program Coordinator , depending on finalist level of experience and duties formally assigned.
In this position you will play a key role in coordinating graduate academic processes and ensuring the efficient operation of the Sociology Department, which includes coordinating the department's graduate program. In support of the academic program, your responsibilities include coordinating admissions and onboarding activities; scheduling master's examinations and doctoral defenses; maintaining student records; and collecting and compiling data for annual reviews, reports, and assessments. You will also oversee scholarship and award application processes, manage program-related scheduling and enrollment transactions, and serve as the primary liaison between the Sociology department, the Graduate School, and other stakeholders to ensure compliance with university policies and procedures. Additionally, you will provide information regarding program requirements, deadlines, and processes, without serving in an academic advising capacity.
Also integral to the Department Operations & Program Coordinator role, you will provide support for the Department Chair and department operations including supporting day-to-day operations; scheduling meetings and activities; maintaining database information, files, and confidential records; and serving as the primary point of contact for students, staff and visitors via phone, email, and in-person.

This is a full time (100 % FTE), permanent position. This position is overtime eligible.
This is an on-site/in-person position located on the WSU campus in Pullman, WA.
Monthly Salary:
Program Assistant: $3,565.00 to $4,746.00 | Range 39
Program Coordinator: $3,738.00 to $4,980.00 | Range 41
Successful candidates are typically hired at the beginning of the salary range and receive scheduled salary increment increases in accordance with WAC 357-28.
In accordance with RCW 49.58.110 , the above salary reflects the full salary range for the positions. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate’s current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.

Required Qualifications for Program Assistant:
Required Qualifications for Program Coordinator:
High school graduation or equivalent AND two years of experience in the program specialty OR equivalent education/experience.
Two or more years of full-time experience working with student programs, student records, creating and maintaining confidential records; or equivalent experience.
Additional Qualifications for All Candidates:
Experience using Microsoft Office Suite applications.
Excellent communication skills, oral and written.
The ability to perform work with high level of accuracy and efficiency.
Preferred Qualifications for All Candidates:
Experience working with graduate student records.
Experience working in a higher education environment.
More than two-years of full-time experience working with students in a higher education environment.
Ability to interpret and apply rules and processes.
Familiarity with WSU policies, procedures and systems.
