Superintendent - Job Description
Summary
The Superintendent is responsible for overseeing and coordinating daily field operations on one or multiple earthwork/dirt, concrete, asphalt or bridge projects. This role ensures that work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project plans, specifications, schedules, and budgets. The Superintendent will manage field crews, equipment, subcontractors, and materials while working closely with project management and operations leadership to achieve project goals.

Responsibilities
- Oversee and manage day-to-day field operations on one or multiple earthwork projects
- Schedule and coordinate equipment, labor, materials, and subcontractors to meet project requirements
- Monitor production, efficiency, and progress to ensure alignment with project schedules
- Work closely with project managers to track costs, man hours, and project timelines
- Ensure work is performed in accordance with project plans, specifications, and quality standards
- Review and interpret IDOT plans, specifications, and requirements
- Coordinate with IDOT personnel, private clients, subcontractors, and internal teams
- Identify and resolve field issues in a timely manner to avoid delays
- Maintain clear communication with crews and leadership regarding project status and needs
- Enforce and promote company safety policies and ensure compliance on job sites
- Adapt schedules and resources as needed to meet changing project conditions
- Be available to work extended hours, including nights and weekends, as project demands require
- Travel to various job sites throughout Illinois as needed
- Use a personal pickup truck for jobsite travel, with mileage reimbursement provided by UCM
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience as a superintendent or in a supervisory role within heavy civil earthwork or highway construction
- Strong knowledge of earthwork operations including grading, excavation, and site preparation
- Familiarity with IDOT plans, specifications, and construction standards
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and project documents
- Proven ability to manage crews, equipment, and subcontractors effectively
- Strong communication and leadership skills with the ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams
- Demonstrated ability to manage schedules, budgets, and production goals
- Ability to work in a fast paced, field-based environment with changing priorities
- Willingness to travel throughout Illinois as required
