We are looking for a skilled Consumer Loan Underwriter with expertise in indirect auto and recreational lending to join our dynamic Lending Team. As a member of a forward-thinking, credit union-owned shared services organization, you’ll play a key role in delivering sound credit decisions and operational excellence to our partner credit unions, their members, and our dealer network.
This is a remote role.

Our clients’ members depend on us to look after their accounts and ensure liquidity. They generate transactions from different sources and methods and while most of it is automated, well not all of it is and sometimes the automation does not work the way it’s meant to.

Sometimes they have special needs or find themselves in exigent circumstances. That is also where we come in. We go beyond what a normal bank does in taking care of the members.
Now the whole world around us is going digital. We have to help our members navigate this new world in as seamless and easy way possible.
What are we after?
- High level of experience underwriting indirect consumer loans (auto, recreational vehicle, marine, powersport) originated through a dealer network.
- Strong credit analysis and risk assessment skills, with sound, independent judgment in credit decisioning.
- Working knowledge of indirect lending platforms and dealer point-of-sale systems (e.g., DealerTrack, RouteOne, CUDL) and core banking systems.
- Familiarity with risk-based pricing and tiered rate/approval structures.
- Familiarity with applicable consumer lending compliance requirements (Regulation B/ECOA, Regulation Z, FCRA, Military Lending Act).
- An absolute focus on member and dealer experience and customer service.
- Experience in a high-volume, fast-paced, rapidly changing environment, serving multiple clients.
- Strong analytical and quantitative abilities; strong bias towards data-based decision making and comfort with financial analysis.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills with the ability to effectively work cross-organizationally.

Specific Responsibilities.
- Evaluate and underwrite indirect consumer loan applications submitted by the dealer network within delegated lending authority.
- Analyze credit reports, income, debt-to-income and loan-to-value ratios, and collateral value to determine creditworthiness.
- Apply risk-based pricing and tiered approval structures in accordance with credit union guidelines and investor/program requirements.
- Structure loan terms and conditions to mitigate risk while supporting sound member and dealer relationships.
- Render timely approval, counteroffer, or denial decisions and provide clear, compliant adverse action rationale (Regulation B/ECOA, FCRA).
- Communicate decisions, conditions, and stipulations clearly to dealers and internal staff.
- Monitor and manage the underwriting queue/pipeline to meet turnaround time service levels.
- Refer loans exceeding delegated lending authority to a senior underwriter or manager for second-level review.
- Maintain productive working relationships with the dealer network to support volume and quality goals.
- Monitor indirect lending trends, delinquency, and portfolio quality, and provide feedback to management.
- Participate in audits and quality control reviews to ensure accuracy and compliance throughout the underwriting process.
- Must be flexible with regard to overtime and Saturday hours.
- Assists in staff training and ensures compliance with established policies and procedures.
Is accountable for performing key job requirements of the role. Performs any functions, within scope of authority and expertise, to provide the highest level of service and responsiveness to the members while performing all duties in accordance with prescribed regulatory compliance guidelines and client Credit Union policies and procedures.

Education, Experience & Qualifications
- High school diploma or its equivalent.
- 1-3 years of consumer/indirect lending underwriting experience a plus.
- Working knowledge of applicable consumer lending regulations (Regulation B, Regulation Z, FCRA, Military Lending Act) preferred.
- Must be analytical, detail-oriented, organized, motivated, and flexible.
- Demonstrated customer service and written communication skills.
- Ability to use various types of office software, spreadsheet applications, and PC proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
Pay: $37.00 - $39.00 per hour
