Introduction

The Department of Health Services (DHS), Central Wisconsin Center (CWC) is recruiting for a Limited Term Employment (LTE) Electric Cart Technician. This position will work day shifts. Ideally this position will work 20 hours per week, but days and number of hours can be flexible.

CWC provides short-term and long-term residential services to assist people living with intellectual disabilities in acquiring the personal skills needed to reach their highest potential. CWC is located at 317 Knutson Drive on the North side of Madison. CWC has a 24/7 fitness center, free parking, and is on the Madison Metro bus route.

Wisconsin residency is required for LTE positions.
No more than 1039 hours may be worked within a 12-month period.

Position Summary

This position performs mechanical maintenance and repair work for the electric cart fleet. Tasks include:

Checking tire pressure
Repairing and replacing tires and wheels
Lubing chassis/ steering
Cleaning motor contacts
Repairing body damage
Cleaning electrical contacts
Keeping a stock inventory of parts and ordering as needed
Replacing bulbs and switches
Inspecting and replacing brakes and other parts
Inspecting and troubleshooting electric cart faults
Troubleshooting electrical components
Inspecting and repairing pull carts
Replacing wood decking
Lubing wheels and casters

Salary Information

Pay will be $22.63 for hires after June 28, 2026. This is the minimum pay for all Facilities Maintenance Specialist positions after this date.

Pay for current or former state employees will be set based on the rules that apply to compensation for the applicable transaction. This position is classified as a Facilities Maintenance Specialist and in pay schedule and range 03/12.

Job Details

All applicants who may be appointed to this position will be required to allow DHS to conduct a background check to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled.
All appointees will be required to receive a TB test, which will be administered by CWC or medical personnel approved by the facility prior to their start date.
DHS does not sponsor work visas for this position, thus, in compliance with federal law, selected candidates will be required to verify eligibility to work in the United States by completing the required I-9 form upon hire. DHS is not an E-Verify employer nor a STEM-OPT eligible employer.
This position has physical requirements which may include but are not limited to lifting up to 55 lbs., standing and walking on hard tile floors, kneeling, and stooping. Applicants may be required to pass a physical evaluation to assess these requirements.

Qualifications

At a minimum, you’ll need the following:

Experience working with 12- and 24-volt electrical systems.
Basic mechanical skills.
Experience repairing wheels and tires.
Good communication skills.

It’d be great if you also have at least one of the following:

Experience repairing electric carts such as golf carts or lift trucks.
Auto service experience.
