Responsibilities
- Prepare ingredients for daily menu items by chopping, slicing, measuring, and portioning according to recipes and safety standards
- Assist in food preparation tasks such as cooking, assembling meals, and plating dishes with attention to presentation and consistency
- Operate kitchen equipment safely and efficiently, including knives, slicers, ovens, mixers, and other culinary tools
- Maintain high standards of food safety and sanitation by adhering to cleaning schedules, proper food handling procedures, and safety regulations
- Support menu planning efforts by organizing ingredients and supplies needed for upcoming shifts or special catering events
- Collaborate closely with kitchen staff to ensure smooth workflow, effective communication, and timely meal service
- Assist in catering setup and serving when required, ensuring all food is presented attractively and served promptly
Skills
- Proven experience in dietary departments or as a dietary aide is highly desirable
- Strong background in food preparation, cooking techniques, and kitchen operations within a restaurant or food industry setting
- Excellent knife skills with slicing techniques that ensure safety and efficiency
- Knowledge of food safety management practices including proper food handling, storage, and hygiene standards
- Ability to follow recipes accurately while maintaining consistency across all dishes
- Experience with meal preparation for large groups or catering events is a plus
- Effective communication skills for coordinating with kitchen staff and ensuring smooth operations during busy periods
