Join us in the exciting, innovative and rewarding environment of the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources (KDFWR)! Minor Clark Fish Hatchery has three full-time positions available for Fish and Wildlife Technician I.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Learns to operate fish transportation trucks, statewide stocking locations, and assist with stocking fish in public lakes, streams, and tailwaters while always monitoring the well-being of the fish being transported.
Assist with maintenance and repairs of hatchery pond structures, buildings, and grounds.
Assist with other fish culture activities such as taking dissolved oxygen readings in ponds, starting aeration equipment, sample seining, summarizing harvest data, feeding fish, spawning fish, caring for eggs and fry, harvesting fingerlings, and applying chemicals and fertilizers to ponds.
Assist with fabrication and repair of trucks and equipment.
Assists other fisheries staff with fish acquisition for broodstock and population studies and with fish habitat improvement work.
Follow state and KDFWR policies and procedures in the purchasing of supplies and equipment as needed or directed. Completes daily activity sheets and stocking cards.
Performs other duties as required.
Preferred Skills and Abilities:
CDL should be obtained within 6 months of employment.
Candidates with a commercial driver’s license (CDL) with Air Brake and Tanker Endorsement preferred.

Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: NONE
Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Experience in fisheries or wildlife management will substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
