Haughton Jamaican Flavor Hut is seeking a dependable and motivated Food Service Associate to support food preparation and production in our licensed commercial kitchen. This position plays an essential role in ensuring food is prepared safely, efficiently, and according to established recipes and quality standards. The ideal candidate enjoys working in a fast-paced kitchen environment and takes pride in maintaining cleanliness, organization, and food quality.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
● Assist with food preparation, including washing, cutting, chopping, seasoning, and portioning ingredients.
● Prepare menu items and ingredients according to established recipes and production schedules.
● Package, label, and organize prepared food for transport and service.
● Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of workstations, equipment, utensils, and food preparation areas.
● Follow all food safety, sanitation, and health department requirements.
● Properly store food products and rotate inventory using FIFO (First In, First Out) practices.
● Assist with receiving, stocking, and organizing food and supply deliveries.
● Monitor food quality and immediately report any concerns regarding product freshness or safety.
● Assist with loading prepared food for transport to retail locations or catering events as needed.
● Support kitchen operations and complete other assigned duties to ensure efficient production.
Qualifications
● Previous food preparation or kitchen experience preferred.
● Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices.
● Ability to follow recipes and written instructions.
● Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
● Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
● Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 pounds.
● Reliable transportation and dependable attendance.
● Food Handler Card required (or ability to obtain within required timeframe).
Preferred Qualifications
● Experience preparing Caribbean or Jamaican cuisine.
● Experience working in a commercial kitchen, restaurant, catering, or food production environment.
● ServSafe Food Handler certification.
Work Environment
This position is performed primarily in a commercial kitchen environment. Duties may require prolonged standing, bending, lifting, carrying supplies, and working around commercial kitchen equipment and varying temperatures.
