Overview
Scientific Engineering Inc. is seeking a full-time Machinist with both manual and CNC machining experience for our established job shop. This position involves setup and operation of manual mills and lathes as well as CNC equipment to produce precision, small-batch, and custom parts.
We are looking for a dependable, detail-focused machinist who can work independently, read prints, perform setups, and hold tolerances. This is a stable, long-term shop position with consistent hours and strong benefits
Core Responsibilities
- Set up and operate lathes and milling machines
- Set up and operate mills and/or lathes
- Perform job setups from blueprints and work instructions
- Machine precision parts to specified tolerances
- Select tooling, speeds, and feeds based on material and job requirements
- Make setup and offset adjustments as needed
- Inspect parts using precision measuring equipment
- Maintain quality and repeatability across runs
- Keep work area clean and safe
- Work independently once job requirements are understood
Required Qualifications
- Ability to perform machine setups (not operator-only)
- Blueprint reading required
- Experience holding tolerances and verifying dimensions
- Proficient with calipers, micrometers, and gauges
- Job shop or custom part experience preferred
- Reliable attendance and work ethic
- High school diploma or GED
