Position Summary
The Chief Maintenance Engineer is responsible for the overall maintenance, repair, safety, and operational efficiency of the hotel’s physical property, equipment, and building systems. This leadership role ensures that all hotel facilities meet Renaissance and Marriott brand standards while providing a safe, comfortable, and exceptional guest experience. The Chief Maintenance Engineer supervises the Engineering Department, manages preventive maintenance programs, oversees capital improvement projects, and ensures compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Leadership & Management
- Direct, train, coach, and supervise all Engineering Department team members.
- Schedule engineering staff to ensure adequate coverage for hotel operations.
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing development and training.
- Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and service excellence.
- Participate in department head meetings and contribute to hotel operational goals.
Facility Maintenance
- Oversee the maintenance and repair of guest rooms, public areas, back-of-house spaces, and exterior grounds.
- Ensure proper operation of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, refrigeration, fire life safety, kitchen equipment, elevators, and building automation systems.
- Respond to emergency maintenance situations promptly and effectively.
- Maintain hotel appearance and functionality in accordance with Marriott and Renaissance brand standards.
Preventive Maintenance
- Develop, implement, and monitor a comprehensive preventive maintenance program.
- Conduct regular inspections of all hotel systems and equipment.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, work orders, and inspection reports.
- Ensure timely completion of guest room preventive maintenance schedules.
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, local building codes, fire safety requirements, and environmental regulations.
- Manage hotel fire life safety systems and conduct routine testing and inspections.
- Lead emergency preparedness and response procedures.
- Maintain required permits, certifications, and compliance documentation.
Guest Service
- Respond professionally and efficiently to guest maintenance requests.
- Partner with Front Office and Housekeeping departments to resolve guest concerns.
- Support hotel initiatives that enhance guest satisfaction and operational excellence.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Technical certification, trade school education, or degree in Engineering, Facilities Management, or related field preferred.
- Minimum 2 years of hotel engineering experience.
- Minimum 3 years of supervisory or management experience in hotel maintenance or facilities management.
- Marriott or branded hotel experience preferred.
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong knowledge of:

- Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
- Proficiency with maintenance management software and Microsoft Office.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced hospitality environment.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb ladders, and lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work in mechanical rooms, rooftops, and confined spaces.
- Availability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and respond to emergency calls as needed.

Pay: $60,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
