American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an Emergency Department position at a Level II Trauma Center in Montgomery, AL, requiring a minimum of 2 years of critical care experience and Cerner or Epic proficiency.

71-bed Emergency Department at a 522-bed, Level II Trauma Center that functions at a Level I acuity level, also designated as a Primary Stroke Center and Level III NICU facility
-
Patient population includes multi-system trauma, STEMI, stroke, CHF, COPD, GI, GU, OB/GYN, pediatrics, and psychiatric cases
-
Patient ratios: 1:4 (ER), 1:5 (MS holds), 1:3 (ICU holds), with CNA support at 1:12
-
12-hour shifts available across multiple start times: 7a–7p, 7p–7a, 11a–11p, and 3p–3a, with a 4-week scheduling cycle

36 hours per week standard, with 48 hours available

Every-other-weekend rotation, or approximately 4 weekend days per month on a block schedule

No floating required and no on-call responsibilities

EMR: Cerner (required); IV pumps: Plum 360; medication dispensing: Omnicell; monitors: Spacelabs

Unit support includes charge nurse, CNA, receptionist/HUC, phlebotomy (until 3:00 AM), IV/VAT team, and hospitalist coverage

Active RN license in Alabama or a Compact state required (AL or Compact RN license must be in hand)

Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, PALS, TNCC, NIHSS, and Secure/CPI (nationally recognized/JACHO accepted)

Minimum 2 years of RN experience required

First-time travelers must have at least 2 years of RN experience, Cerner or Epic experience, and Level II Trauma or higher experience

Experienced travelers must have at least 2 years of critical care experience (ICU or ED), with the most recent year in a Level II ED and Cerner or Epic experience

Proficiency with: trach care, vent care, ICU drip management, chest tube, arterial line, CVL, PICC, midline, port access, Foley catheter, splint/ortho device application, BiPAP/high-flow oxygen, and continuous bladder irrigation

One reference from a charge nurse or above from the past 12 months required for consideration

SSN, DOB (day and month), and copies of certifications required for consideration

Candidates must reside more than 60 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position

Former permanent staff must wait 6 months before being considered as a traveler

New-to-facility travelers and return travelers absent for 1+ years will complete 24 hours of classroom orientation followed by 24 hours of on-unit orientation; rehire orientation length depends on time since last assignment

One major and one minor seasonal holiday coverage required per policy; specific holiday scheduling is not contractually guaranteed prior to arrival

Pre-approved RTO blackout dates apply throughout the contract period, including: MLK Jr. Day (1/19–20), Valentine's week (2/13–16), the entire month of March, Easter weekend (4/18–20), Mother's Day weekend (5/10–12), Memorial Day week (5/24–26), Father's Day weekend (6/14–16), Fourth of July (7/3–6), Labor Day weekend (8/30–9/1), Halloween week (10/30–11/2), Thanksgiving (11/26–30), and Christmas/New Year's (12/21–1/1)
