Position Summary
InNovo Partners is seeking an experienced and motivated Deputy Project Manager to join our Orlando office. This professional engineer will support Project Managers in the successful delivery of a diverse portfolio of transportation design projects for public sector clients involving limited-access and surface facilities.
The ideal candidate will possess strong technical expertise in transportation design, demonstrated experience coordinating multidisciplinary project teams, and a comprehensive understanding of FDOT and national design standards. This individual will work closely with Project Managers to oversee day-to-day project execution, coordinate with clients and stakeholders, manage technical deliverables, and support the continued growth of our transportation practice.
This position provides an excellent opportunity for an experienced transportation engineer seeking increased project management responsibility and a pathway toward leading major transportation projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Support Project Managers in the planning, coordination, and delivery of transportation design projects from concept development through final design and construction support.
- Assist in managing roadway projects including resurfacing, rehabilitation, widening, interchange modifications, and limited-access facility improvements.
- Coordinate day-to-day project activities among internal teams, clients, agencies, subconsultants, and project stakeholders.
- Assist with the development and management of project scopes, schedules, budgets, staffing plans, and work assignments.
- Monitor project progress, budgets, schedules, and deliverables and proactively identify potential risks or issues for resolution.
- Lead and coordinate technical design efforts and provide guidance to engineering and production staff.
- Ensure project deliverables comply with FDOT requirements, AASHTO criteria, MUTCD standards, and other applicable national and local design standards.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary efforts involving roadway, drainage, geotechnical, traffic, structures, utilities, and other technical disciplines.
- Review design plans, specifications, quantities, calculations, technical reports, and other project deliverables for quality and completeness.
- Prepare for and participate in client meetings, project coordination meetings, design reviews, and stakeholder discussions.
- Support Project Managers with client communication, meeting documentation, action-item tracking, and project reporting.
- Assist with change management, subconsultant coordination, invoicing support, and other project administration activities.
- Participate in business development activities, proposal preparation, presentations, and client relationship management.
- Mentor junior engineers and support staff and assist with workload planning and technical development.
- Serve as a technical task lead or discipline lead on larger transportation projects, as appropriate.
- Assume increasing project management responsibilities based on experience, project needs, and demonstrated performance.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university.
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in Florida.
- Minimum of 6+ years of transportation engineering experience with progressively increasing project coordination, technical leadership, or project management responsibilities.
- Demonstrated experience supporting or coordinating FDOT transportation design projects.
- Strong knowledge of:
- FDOT Design Manual (FDM)
- Florida Greenbook
- AASHTO standards and guidelines
- MUTCD requirements
- FDOT Project Development and Environment (PD&E) processes
- Experience with both:
- Limited-access facility design
- Urban and suburban surface street design
- Working knowledge of:
- Geotechnical engineering principles
- Pavement design concepts
- Drainage and stormwater management fundamentals
- Utility coordination
- Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) plans
- Strong communication, organizational, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to coordinate multiple technical disciplines, priorities, and project assignments simultaneously.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with Project Managers, clients, technical staff, subconsultants, and agency representatives.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience serving as a task manager, discipline lead, or Deputy Project Manager on transportation projects.
- Experience serving as Engineer of Record (EOR) or supporting EOR responsibilities is a plus.
- Experience with roadway design, design-build, or alternative delivery projects.
- Experience working with FDOT Districts, local agencies, and transportation clients throughout Florida.
- Experience assisting with project budgets, schedules, staffing, invoicing, and project controls.
- Proficiency with MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer, and FDOT design software.
- Interest in progressing into a Project Manager role and taking on increasing client and project leadership responsibilities.
