About the Role
Gammon’s Heating & Cooling is seeking an experienced, trustworthy, and highly organized Financial Controller to oversee the financial operations of our growing home-service company.
This is a hands-on leadership position responsible for protecting the financial health of the business, maintaining accurate financial records, managing cash flow, paying bills, overseeing payroll, and providing ownership and management with timely financial information.
The right candidate will be comfortable handling both high-level financial management and day-to-day accounting responsibilities. This position will work closely with the Owner and General Manager and will play an important role in helping the company continue to grow profitably.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the company’s day-to-day accounting and financial operations
- Maintain accurate and complete QuickBooks Online records
- Enter, code, review, and schedule vendor bills for payment
- Manage accounts payable and maintain strong vendor relationships
- Monitor accounts receivable, customer balances, deposits, and collections
- Process payroll accurately and on time
- Reconcile bank accounts and company credit cards
- Maintain the general ledger and prepare journal entries
- Complete month-end and year-end closing procedures
- Prepare monthly profit-and-loss statements, balance sheets, and cash-flow reports
- Monitor daily cash balances and prepare rolling cash-flow forecasts
- Develop and monitor annual budgets
- Compare actual financial performance to budget
- Monitor gross profit, net profit, overhead, and departmental performance
- Prepare weekly financial reports for ownership and management
- Identify financial risks, trends, and cost-saving opportunities
- Establish and maintain strong internal financial controls
- Coordinate with banking partners, insurance providers, payroll providers, and tax professionals
- Prepare annual 1099 reporting and support tax preparation
- Improve financial systems, workflows, reporting, and automation
- Protect confidential company, employee, payroll, banking, and financial information
What Success Looks Like
- Bills are entered accurately and paid on time
- Cash flow is closely monitored and clearly communicated
- Bank and credit-card accounts are reconciled monthly
- Payroll is accurate and completed on schedule
- Financial statements are completed by the 10th business day of each month
- Ownership receives reliable and meaningful financial information
- Accounts receivable and overdue balances are actively managed
- Financial procedures are documented and followed
- Problems are identified early and addressed quickly
- Company assets and confidential information are protected
Qualifications
- Strong experience in accounting, bookkeeping, financial management, or controllership
- Advanced knowledge of QuickBooks Online
- Experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, reconciliations, and financial reporting
- Ability to prepare and analyze financial statements
- Strong understanding of cash-flow management, budgeting, and forecasting
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
- High level of integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to communicate financial information clearly to ownership and management
- Comfortable working independently and taking full ownership of financial responsibilities
- Experience in construction, HVAC, trades, home services, or a service-based business is preferred
