Literacy Coach
Purpose Statement
The job of Literacy Coach was established for the purpose/s of facilitating change in instructional practices of teachers that will enable teachers to diagnose student needs more analytically; plan more productively; and teach more effectively.
Minimum Qualifications:

Certification in an area of Elementary, Middle School, Literacy Coach, Literacy Specialist, and/or Literacy Teacher

3 years teaching experience with proven success in student reading achievement

Knowledge of best practices in reading/language arts
-
Skill in analyzing teaching
-
Ability to be innovative and willing to promote new programs and processes
Responsibilities

The literacy coach provides leadership for teachers by planning, collaborating, organizing, mentoring and facilitating change to improve the instructional program; the literacy coach partners with classroom teachers to assess students, plan instruction and implement best practices to create model classrooms where other teachers can come to observe.

The literacy coach analyzes data with classroom teachers and administrators in order to meet the needs of every student and improve classroom instruction.

The literacy coach provides and gathers resources for classroom teachers and administrators in order to support instruction for all grade levels.

The literacy coach facilitates the use of research-based teaching strategies and best practices to address the needs of teachers and school goals.

The literacy coach provides staff development needed to implement the school’s strategic improvement plan.

The literacy coach establishes, maintains and enhances effective communication with administrators, teachers, parents and other stakeholders.

The literacy coach demonstrates a commitment to their own professional growth by staying current with knowledge of research based practices that ensure success of all students.

The literacy coach works with principals and teachers in organizing and planning grade level meetings and after school staff development to support school and district initiatives.

The literacy coach works collaboratively with media specialists to promote informational literacy to provide resources and staff development.

The literacy coach critically and regularly analyzes their own practices in an effort to achieve a school-wide vision.

The literacy coach creates an atmosphere of trust and collaboration among staff members to promote professional growth.

The literacy coach will coordinate parent workshops for parents to better assist their child at home with literacy.
